Why Duplicate Players in New Historical League?

I just started a new historical league and noticed that there are a whole bunch of duplicate players. For example, there's a Yogi Berra on the '52 Yankees, but also a Yogi Berra who signed as a free agent with the White Sox.

1. What could cause that?

2. Is there any way to delete the duplicate players?

Any help appreciated.

That sounds a bit odd. If you set up another historical league in the same way you created this one, do you get the same problem?
