Frequent crashes since 916

I have been experiencing frequent crashes since installing the latest patch. I used the full install.

The game crashes when I try to load another game or quit the game. I have found that I am able to successfully hit the "save game", which usually saves my league for me fortunately. Then I try the other option which causes the crash.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling OOTP9?

By the way, do a complete uninstall or you will be left with some of the earlier installed game. If you want to save your games or other files within the game you are reinstalling then copy them to another folder and then copy them back into the reinstalled sim.

I would also suggest, for anyone who wants to do a reinstall that after uninstalling the game, use a good registry cleaner program so that whatever is left in the registry after the uninstall (and there always are because window's uninstall program isn't worth a damn) and delete those files that show up from the sim. Then reinstall. Otherwise it is like putting a bandaid over a crack in a dam.....waste of time. You might get by with it but you might not as well.

Any examples of good registry cleaner programs?

I got 2 out of 4 crashes after uninstall. I guess I'd better try a more complete uninstall. Yeah, what is a good registry cleaner (hopefully free)?

I use CCleaner; contains other useful tools as well, but the registry clean does a great job. If you use it, don't just run the registry scan once, but run it until it returns a no errors found. It's always done a great job for me after major adjustments I've made in uninstalling (another of its options) or re-installing programs.

Yes, I think for a free one that CCleaner is probably as good as you can get. I have used it a lot and it always has done a good job. And yes, keep doing it until you have no more errors found. I uses Registry Clean Expert which finds more errors than CCleaner does on the first run but I think CCleaner is a must have program because of that but more importantly for the other thing it does very well, getting rid of junk files you no longer need. Been using it for a very long time. CCleaner is free, of course.

I ended up trying "Eusing Free Registry Cleaner" found it by googling. I read a review on PC World so I assumed it wasn't a malware program. Anyway, I ran it twice and it supposedly eliminated hundreds of problems. Going to try OOTP yet again.

Just got CCleaner, looks pretty cool also, more utilities.
