Crash related to in-game sound

I've been running 9.1.6 (PC) for a week or so now, and have been doing fine.

Today, for some reason, I am crashing after the first time a batter hits the ball. I tried rebooting my machine, and I still crash, same recipe. I can easily reproduce this.

I remember having sound problems in an old version of OOTP, so I tried disabling the in-game sound, and no more crashes. So, I can play again, but I was really digging the sound. How can I help debug?

Well, that's odd. Did you change anything with your computer before these issues started popping up?

Do you have the latest drivers for your sound card? If those don't work, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling OOTP.

I concur. Try getting the very latest drivers for your graphics card and reinstall the sim. Somehow, probably through no fault of yours, an added program or one you already have on your computer has messed up your graphics drivers. It happens, unfortunately. The only thing you can do then is reinstall the game. I am assuming you have Windows. I have no idea if it is a Mac.

I do have the latest drivers for my audio interface. And, yes, Windows.

I did make one hardware change - I installed a MIDI controller. I do know that this particular MIDI controller does not have any audio devices/drivers associated with it.

Hm - does OOTP use any of Microsoft's General MIDI synth APIs under the hood? I wonder if something isn't getting initialized properly when trying to play the sound. The crash would occur as OOTP was trying to play the sound of the crack of the bat.

It's possible. Could you try uninstalling the MIDI controller to see if that fixes the problem? Alternatively, could you try playing the sounds from within Windows, rather than from OOTP? (Files located in: \OOTP Baseball 9\data\sounds)

Crash on first hit

I've patched to 9.2.2 and I'm still getting the problem described here

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ame-sound.html

Is there any info I can send along to help debug?

Did you try these suggestions?

I can play all the sounds in the sounds folder, but my sounds folder is not where you said it was. It's here:

\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9\sounds

I'll try uninstalling the MIDI controller drivers next.

I just uninstalled the MIDI controller drivers, rebooted, and got the crash again.

What happened in the game is that the leadoff man took the first pitch for a strike, fouled off the second pitch, and then the app crashed.

Up until that point, I heard crowd noises, and the pop of the first pitch hitting the catchers mitt. On the second pitch, I heard the crack of the bat, but the "FOUL" ball appears in the very top left corner of the field. The screen freezes and then the app crashes. I attached a screenshot.

What to try next?

FWIW, I just disabled ball animation, I kept sound enabled and I did not get a crash. Are there any known crash problems with ball animation?

Also, for more info on how I've been playing (which perhaps is less conventional):

Before the start of every game, I assign my manager to control all aspects of game play. So, yeah, I just sit back and watch. I'm just the GM.

I also turn off "Pause after each play" so the game just goes on autopilot.

Perhaps when playing in this way there's something in the app that's not getting initialized properly when the first foul ball is hit with ball animation on? If the first ball hit is not a foul ball, I won't get the crash.

Have you done any editing on ball flight locations? I've had a quick look through the defaults and can't find any ball position that appears in the top left corner.

Nope, I've never done any editing on ball flight locations.

It seems the bug is related to ball animations. Should I change the subject? Am I really the only one with this problem?

Is this still causing a problem? Have you tried re-setting the ball park co-ordinates to see if that cures it?

Yup, I still have the problem.

It doesn't seem to be specific to any particular ball park. Is there an easy way to reset the co-ordinates of all ball parks, rather than just one?

Have you tried using version 9.2.11?

Hi, I just wanted to post that I have not seen this crash bug since installing 9.2.11. <knock wood>

So, either there was a fix in 9.2.11, or just the act of executing a full install did the trick.

Thanks -
