Voided option year reappearing after extension is signed

During the last sim in our online league (the first of the off-season), two separate owners claim they voided the option year of a player and then signed him to an extension. Those extensions were accepted, but in both cases the voided option year salary has reappeared in the players' contract info sub-tab. Furthermore, there's no record of their option years being voided in the transaction log.

Both the owners in question are honest people and I believe them when they say they voided the option year of these players. So my question is why are the option years are still showing up? Does it have something to do with the fact that they were immediately signed to an extension? Is it just a display issue that will rectify itself when we hit free agency?

Version 9.1.6?

Not sure, though the fact that they voided the option year and offered an extension in the same export is heavily suspect. I'd suggest creating a copy of the league and simming forward to find out what happens, then I can log the issue.

I think so. It seems that the last salary the player made will show until free agents walk sometime in November. Are these guys showing multiple years on the original?

Look carefully at the year referenced. I just did this in my solo league and when I looked in his contract info I went WTF! It looked like he had his original contract plus the extension. In my case the salary was referenced to 2068 which is the season just finished.

Well, there is indeed some kind of problem here, but before I continue I need to fess up and admit with embarrassment that I posted this in the wrong forum. This is an OOTP 8 (8.0.0.13) issue. We won't be converting to 9 for another month. Would it be possible to move this thread over to the OOTP 8 tech forum? This'll teach me to rush over here as I'm about to leave work...

Alright, I've had a chance to do some testing on my end. First, when I try to replicate the situation using my backup files everything seems to work as you would expect. The option year disappears, there's a record of the option year being voided and the extension gets added onto the (now-expiring) contract.

Second, it's definitely not a display issue. Using our current files I simmed forward up into the preseason and it's still showing the voided option year as the 2009 salary (the season we're heading into). The extensions are waiting in the wings to pick up in 2010.

I understand the reasoning of the owners here: they wanted to keep the players but not at the salaries they'd be on the hook for if the option years were picked up. So they voided those options and instead negotiated a new extension. Seems perfectly reasonable; we see that happen in MLB as well.

So now it comes down to do I trust them that they voided the options (since there's no record of it)? In this case I do. Part of that is due to the track record of the owners in question and another part is due to the fact that it's two separate owners reporting the same problem simultaneously. That'd be a pretty well-coordinated conspiracy to pull off for two relatively minor relievers.

So if you buy that they're being honest - and I do - then there's something wrong here. I can only assume it has something to do with this situation where an option is voided and an extension is immediately negotiated.

OOTP 8? Yeah, team option decisions didn't properly export. That was fixed in OOTP 9, so there shouldn't be any trouble after you convert.

I'll move this to the closed area of the OOTP 8 Tech Support forum. If you have any trouble with the current software, please let us know.

Thanks Nutlaw, that works for me. As long as it's fixed in OOTP 9 then there's no worries. Transition day for PEBA is Thursday, Oct. 9. It can't come soon enough!
