Left handed throwing fielders

In my OOTP9 universe, there is a problem with left handed throwing fielders playing positions where lefties can't play.

I just calculated the totals for my 2008 season. Lefties played a grand total of 981 games at 2B, 620 games at SS, 673 games at 3B and 162 games at C.

Those are figures for the whole OOTP9 universe. At the major league level, lefties combined for 76 games at 2B, 71 games at SS, 29 games at 3B and 21 games at C.

There are now 8 lefthanded players in my OOTP9 universe who played enough 2B to have that listed as his position, 8 for SS and 7 for 3B.

Was this game universe created using OOTP 9 or was it converted from an earlier version?

It was created using the 2008 quick start option immediately when OOTP9 came out and each patch has been applied as soon as they came out.

I can also add that the universe consists of the majors and the minors. No other leagues were added.

Are any of these players actually primary positioned at these positions or are they 1st basemen for example who have been moved there as backup.

As far as I know the game doesn't create left handed 2B, SS and 3B and the fact that there are over 100,000 potential starts for C, 2B, SS and 3B in the 13,500 or so games in a standard MLB setup would lend credence to the backup theory.

Of course, if that is the case, it's probably a bug as you wouldn't put a leftie to start in those positions - though would a team bring up a minor league player if they only had lefties on the bench and needed to fill in one of those spots in the lineup?

I now have 23 left handed throwers who are currently primary positioned at 2B, SS or 3B. I don't know how to check to see how they were originally primary positioned, or even if that is possible.

When I was playing the September games, there was 1 particular opponent (the Orioles) whose AI manager showed absolutely no regard for lefthanded throwers or, sometimes, even positions at all. They have a left handed throwing rookie whose primary position is 1B, and no ratings/experience at any other position, who was always used as a starter at inappropriate positions. And, his minor league fielding figures show he was also used as a starter down there.

It looks like they are really trying to convert him to other infield positions.

Also, I did some more number crunching on the 2425 games that lefty throwers played at 2B, SS, 3B and C. 1925 of them, which is 79%, were games started. So, not only shouldn't there be such a huge number of such games, there definitely shouldn't be all of those games started.

So, the Orioles rookie that I used as my above example isn't just an isolated case. He's part of a pattern.

Has anyone seen this behavior in a newly created fictional league using the latest patch? If the league came from an earlier version or from a Quickstart, the players might have been generated using old code that didn't filter out these types of players.
