Loading Problem

My league never had problems loading, but recently, every time I try to load the game, it gets all the way to 100%, and when it says "finalizing", the game stops responding and it eventually shuts itself down. All this started after one time while OOTP was on, the power went out, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It's done this before and after I downloaded the new patch.

Try:

1. uninstall the game
2. System Restore your machine to a point in time before your power outage.
3. Re-install the game
4. Apply the 9.2.3 patch

done and same result, still stops at finalizing.

Odd. There is another user with the same problem caused by a power outage. Not only that, just yesterday, my father's laptop battery died while he was playing the game. He now can't get the game to do anything except startup. I'll check with Markus on this and get back to you.

I have contacted Markus and he has responded. We are looking into this now. Markus is trying to narrow down what step the game is on when it crashes. Hopefully he does and can find a solution.

In the meantime, here is a temporary solution. Another user had the same problem. He eventually tried installing on a separate partition. As luck would have it, The game works now.

As I mentioned to Andreas in a reply to the PM he sent me, I am convinced this is a problem with the C drive and or the operating system. I did a search and came up with several issues (not only involving game software) with Vista caused by blackouts and sudden loss of power. Also, it's clear that the .dats are not corrupt because the same league files will load up fine if the game is installed on another partition or another computer altogether. The game is obviously not able to call on something it needs while running on the affected drive.

That said, for now I'd suggest, to those having this problem, running a "Check Disk" on the C drive, while making sure to put a check mark in "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". This will take an hour or so, depending on your system.

After the machine boots, try the game and see what happens.

If that doesn't work, you may need to repair your O.S. with the installation disk.

If any of you try this, please let us know how it goes.

If you could also get a screenshot of when the game freezes, it might provide a little insight for Markus to go on as well.
