Crash on First-Year Player Draft

League is crashing on first year player draft. Can't proceed.

Lot's of changes made this year, so hard to say what caused it.

1. Did a manual expansion (1 team).
2. Changed settings, names, etc. (no file imports though).

Easiest would simply be to send you the file. Let me know.
Thanks.

In the meantime, I'm going back to my last back-up. TON of work between that back-up and now, unfortunately. The last back up was before the expansion. Given that I have a odd number of teams, I have to manually schedule. UGH.

Will take a while to repeat the work, but when I get back, I'll post if the crash occurs again. In the meantime, tell me if you want the broken league file for research.

Confirmed. The addition of one team is the problem. But why?

From the back-up, ran without adding any teams. Could launch the first-year player draft no problem.

From the back-up, ran by adding two teams (not through the expansion wizard, but simply by adding teams via the league structure editor). Launched the first-year player draft no problem.

From the back-up, ran by adding one team. Upon launch of first-year player draft, OOTP crashed.

I think I've found a bug.

FYI -- my league set-up is as follows:
1. One league, One sub-league, One Division
2. Formerly 6 teams, added 7th team through League Structure edtior.
3. Unchecked "Balanced Schedule" in League Editor and regenerated schedule.

No dice. Crash.

I'm fairly certain you can have an odd number of teams in OOTP, right? So what's the issue here?

Thanks again ...

Oops. No bug. Found my answer.

I knew OOTP could handle odd numbers within divisions, but forgot that the total within the sub-league has to be even. So because in my league the sub-league and the division are the same, only even numbers are allowed.

Not sure why this has to be the case. A suggestion for future versions, perhaps?

Scheduling reasons, presumably. It's much more difficult when one team has to have an off-day every day. Yes, you could manually enter in the schedule, but that's incredibly time-consuming and not a good idea for most users.

Nutlaw,

Yes, entering the schedule in manually is time consuming, but possible. But OOTP will not allow odd numbers of teams within a sub-league, right? So even if I was willing to enter the schedule myself, I can't have this option.

Although I'm perplexed by a thread started by Markus himself in September where he asks for a schedule for a 17 team schedule:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...e-request.html

Further ... I noticed in the Mod forum a 7-team schedule. In a test league driven off my last back-up, I added a 7th team, and then imported the schedule successfully.

When the first-year player draft came around, crash.

I think I'm going back to thinking there is a bug.

More research yields that you can have an odd number of teams and use custom schedules, yet the program still crashes.

Honestly, I'm very confused now!

That seems to indicate you can have odd numbers. If so, how?

I don't know. I know that when I try to select an odd number of teams in a subleague when creating my game universe, the game gives me an error and reports that, "Only an even number of teams is allowed within a sub-leagues!" Questionable grammar aside, I think that the intent is clear.

Well, Nutlaw, I think only Marcus can answer here. I agree that when creating a league it only allows even, but others have stated you can get around this and Markus himself seemed to have a league with 17 teams.

I was able to run my league with 7 teams (with a custom schedule) provided I didn't have an amateur draft on, so the odd number of teams doesn't seem to be the problem per se -- its the odd number of teams PLUS the amateur draft.

Realizing there was no easy solution, I simply moved past it and opted to expand two teams rather than one. Now I'm on to my next issue (sigh) -- the expansion draft includes four teams even though I only expanded two!! I posted another thread about this.

I must be cursed. I keep hitting all these blocades in OOTP that no else has issues with. (sigh) I should just resign to run a MLB league starting in 2007 with default rules.

Anyway -- I'd think there may be an issue here worthy of a ticket, but that's your call. I've sidestepped the issue and put it behind me for now--like I said, another issue is now consuming my time.

I'm getting to be a frequent contributor on this board...
