error during backup function

I would like to revive this one:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-function.html

I am experiencing the same thing, although there is a key difference from the original poster's issue...

Unlike the original poster, I have successfully backed up this league before. I made a few backups prior to the start of the first season (1901): Shortly after importing players, before spring training, and a couple just before the start of the first season. I don't think it's a naming problem because before each backup, I create a folder that is date-based (i.e., 1901-01-01, 1901-03-15, 1901-04-18).

As I indicated, previous backups were successful. Only after I let the league run (as a test) until the end of the 1937 season, and then tried to backup (to a folder named 1937-11-15, or something like that), did the backup fail.

Previous backups processed pretty quickly (less than a minute, perhaps). The 1937 attempt took considerably longer (maybe 20 mins) before the error message. I attribute this to the history that was built up after 37 yrs.

For add'l background, it's a historical league starting in 1901, with three levels of minors that are filled primarily w fictional players.

In the original post, Comedian2004 suggested making a backup of the league from the operating system. What does this mean? Simply copying and pasting files? If so, which files should be copied, and which ones aren't needed?

Any other suggestions or things I should investigate? Thanks in advance.

Anybody have any thoughts on this, and/or answers to my questions about Comedian2004's suggestion of making backups from the operating system?

Larry's suggestion (Comedian2004) is always a valid and good way of backing up a league - it makes sure everything is copied.

As to why your backup isn't working as it should, I'm not sure. Could you zip up your .lg directory and FTP it as per the instructions in the How To FTP Files to Us thread in this forum?
