Wow... just when I thought we were being neglected, I come home from work to find ~20 new replies on this subject! Unfortunately, I keep running into the exact same dead end that DuckSnort is encountering. I tried modifying the "Fullscreen," "crashed_on_startup," & "disable facegen" data. and keep getting the "ootp9.exe has encountered a problem" message. Only the one time after modifying "crashed_on _startup" did i not receive the "default graphics" messages. Here is my error log from starting with tracemode: Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup Successfully tried to open $USERPREFS/database, using C:\Documents and Settings\john\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 as DMPT_CUST_DATA now Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup Successfully tried to open $USERPREFS/saved_games, using C:\Documents and Settings\john\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 as DMPT_USER_DATA now Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup This is the DMPT_BASE path now: C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup This is the DMPT_BASE_DATA path now: C:\Program Files\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9\data Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup This is the DMPT_APP_DATA path now: C:\Documents and Settings\john\Application Data\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup This is the DMPT_CUST_DATA path now: C:\Documents and Settings\john\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup This is the DMPT_USER_DATA path now: C:\Documents and Settings\john\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9 Mon 1st Dec 17:37 startup This is the DMPT_SAVEDGAMES path now: C:\Documents and Settings\john\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9\saved_games Mon 1st Dec 17:37 is_user_data_installed Path exists: C:\Documents and Settings\john\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9\database I'm having a hard time believing it has anything to do with the video card? As I said earlier in this thread, I was able to run the demo mode months ago with an ancient 2MB card. I've upgraded to a slightly less-ancient 8MB card now, but I can actually watch DVDs and other movie files on my machine now in pretty high quality (much more graphically intense than this game is), also have 32-bit color and 1600x1200 res. And yes, I've tried changing the screen resolution several times, and still get the same error. If it is the video card, then that oughta be listed as a minimum requirement. And I'll be expecting a prompt full refund. But I really, really want this to work! I've been reading the manual and am semi-drooling over the advancements since OOTP6. Thanks to DuckSnort for sticking with it & trying to solve the problem and to those who have attempted to assist with this. |

one thing i noticed that might be peculiar?
I use VLC media player, and .bin files are set-up to be associated with VLC. the OOTP9 skin.bin files are default listed as a "VLC Media File" Could that make a difference? Those files are pretty big too, 16MB+ each? |

well, it wasn't the VLC conflict
i uninstalled VLC, saw that the .bin files were still associated as VLC files uninstalled OOTP, reinstalled OOTP, verified that the .bin files were now associated with OOTP attempted to start the game straight from the desktop, as admin, and w/ tracemode & got the same old error messages i'm searching for the "banging head against wall" emoticon, but there is no such thing... ...and one more thing i tried (unsuccessfully)
went through the whole DirectX diagnostic suite & everything was working/installed properly then went to the Windows Help DirectX troubleshooting page, modified the graphics acceleration & got the same message upon attempted start-up, checking for duplicate drivers, etc. the troubleshooting eventually gave up & told me to seek help elsewhere so i'm pretty confident it's not a directx problem i'll echo the sentiments that DuckSnort shared earlier today.... i shouldn't have to spend hours upon hours repeatedly uninstalling/installing, modifying, googling, tweaking settings just to get this game to start. how much will go wrong if/when i can actually get it to start? as a paying customer, i'm supposed to be playing the game, not trying to figure out how to make it start. i think that should be the job of those that got my $ my machine meets or exceeds the minimum requirements as stated, the game should function at least on the most basic level. i'm normally a pretty patient dude, but this is absolutely ridiculous i don't want to be an a-hole and i very much appreciate those who have lent a hand but i've devoted approximately 30 of the last 96 hours to get this thing running and i'm still exactly where i started. elicense has already taken their money from my bank account, where's my game? |

Joey,
You're right, it looks like we're having the exact same problem. For me it's totally frustrating that there are all these people worshiping this game and we're in the dark. It is my hope that things are going to get working and I hope you're able to follow along to get the answers you need as well. I'll keep you posted on any discoveries I have here. |

thanks DuckSnort! I'm closely monitoring these pages to see any updates that may occur.
Maybe I should be more patient or "get a life" ![]() I'm really eager to play this game. Obviously there are thousands of people who have successfully installed and are enjoying the game. Wishing/hoping that we can be amongst them. It would be nice to get some sort of acknowledgment that someone "high on the food chain" at OOTP is looking into the issue(s) or will get to it soon. Enjoy your day! |

I've drawn a blank. We have at least managed to get a black screen before the crash. Everything on the machine matches what I have got on mine, so the program is correct.
I'm convinced it is the graphics card, but there's nothing in the Catalyst software that on being altered has any affect. Starting in safe mode didn't help either. |

They are aware of this thread and I have asked Ducksnort to send all his computer details / graphic card details to Andreas as it does appear to be something to do with the graphics. Since you seem to have the same issue occurring at the same point in loading I suggest you do a quick summary of your PC stats and what your graphic card is and drop Andreas Raht a PM mentioning this thread.

Signing off
To all those who helped:
Nutlaw Tony M Satchel Joey This game and my computer should not have crossed paths. Regretfully, I must surrender this fight. Perhaps there will be a day, with a newer computer, when I may join you. More likely, I will have to settle for something less intense as OOTP9. Farewell... |

i have pretty much given up on getting OOTP 9 to run, as I haven't heard anything from Andreas for a few days.
i thought i might check OOTP 8 to see if it would run on my machine, downloaded a trial version and voila! it works... that leads me to a few questions is OOTP 9 that much more graphically intensive than OOTP 8? (8 would run and 9 wouldn't) if i purchase OOTP 8 will it stop working? as my OOTP 9 demo worked but my purchased version didn't? thanks Last edited by joey; 12-06-2008 at 04:54 PM. |
