Fictional League and Trading
This may be a bug, but then again I have been wrong thousands of times in my life. I am playing a fictional league that is currently almost two full seasons in. It started January of 2008 and I am currently in August of 2009. As I approached the trade deadline in 2009, it still will not let me trade players that were drafted in the initial player draft in January of 2008, saying they were drafted less than a year ago. However, there were players it let me trade right away, within that day. I have some big time prospects that I am wanting to bring up, but they are being blocked by inferior players in the big leagues that I am unable to trade. Is it something I am doing, or an obscure rule that I am unaware of?

No-trade status of recently drafted players is only determined once a season, so you should be able to trade the players with greater than one year of professional service at the end of the season.
Don't get crossed up between the initial league draft and the first-year player draft. Players from the initial league draft when you started your game should be able to be traded just fine as long as they have enough professional service time. Does that answer your question? |

I am not sure I get it still. I drafted a 25 year old 1b in the initial draft. I called him up in like May of 2008. It is now July 31, 2009 and it says he cannot be traded because he was drafted less than a year ago. Shouldn't I be able to trade him right away since it was part of the initial draft and not the amateur draft?

How much professional service time does he have? That's really what's being checked here. The statement "drafted less than a year ago" doesn't mean that the game has any idea when you held your inaugural draft. It means that the player in question didn't have more than a year's worth of professional service time at the end of last season.
