These comments about grievances and such are laughable. No owners are colluding to keep FA signings down.
If the player didn't get signed, there's a reason. No one had the guts to try. GM's valued cash more than wins. When someone valued wins over cash, the Free Agents signed. I'm sure that the NL East thought that Andre Dawson's 1987 deal with the Cubs was ridiculous, too.

It makes perfect sense to take a cut rate long term deal in order to play the game of baseball, earn a paycheck, and then turn things over to the legal team of the Player's Union. There is a long track record where owners took a look at player's demands, declared them 'ridiculous', and then got their heads severed by an arbitrator for acting in concert (knowingly or unknowingly) to depress wages.

I think I agree with goo. If teams are letting all-star caliber players get into June without signing, then that is their own fault. Sounds like you just have a group of tentative players. Do they know you can offer below the demand price?

Although the point made about OOTP allowing multi-year lowball contracts without incentives is probably valid. Seems like it should not do that.
