Speed of league file and HTML reports generation

Has anyone else noticed OOTP 9 generates league files and HTML reports slower then OOTP 8? Like, in the neighborhood of 4x slower? In OOTP 8 I'd be creating a file in a couple of minutes. In OOTP 9 it's taking me 10 minutes with the same settings.

Yes.

It's ridiculous that it takes over 2 hours to create a 45 megabye tarball.

I was having speed issues on my laptop, but once I switched to using my desktop only for generating the league file I no longer had speed issues. League file generally between 35 and 65 MB depending on the time of the season takes me about 5 minutes to generate. The slowdown for me was if trying to upload it via the game. I have stopped that entirely and once the file is generated, I upload using a standard FTP client which is much much faster.

Perhaps the slowdown you experience is due to your system having slower disk access speed (ie: why it was slow for me on my laptop). I assume when writing 5000-15000 files, that disk access matters the most.

And just so no one gets irritated at me, I'm not saying this is your issue and ootp9 isn't slower, just was trying to offer possible suggestions for you to help speed it up to help

The thing is, I'm generating the file and reports on the same system that I was using for OOTP 8, and the speed on that platform was just great. It's only once I made the switch to 9 that things got really slow. Last night it took me 40 minutes to generate the league HTML. We've just reached Spring Training and a few more reports are being included, but that's quite a slowdown from the previous speed of generation.

A couple hundred teams and 12 days of reports. Now I know what you're going to say... "That's a lot! No wonder it took long." But what I'm talking about is the comparative speed that the same operation took in OOTP 8. In 8 I could expect to generate a report of that length in 10-15 minutes. Last night it took me 45. I don't mind that it takes some time; I'm just curious why it's taking so much longer in 9.

Exactly.

For everybody trying to pass this off as a hardware problem, the EXACT SAME THING with OOTP8 took half as long.

If you are pointing this to me, I clearly said my posts wern't anything to do with ootp9 not being slower than ootp8. I actually agree that it seems slower. My intent was to try to pass along various things I found that helped in case anyone was looking for improvement. I assumed you were including me in your comment since you said everybody and only 2 people had responded

Forty-five minutes seems way too long. What's the raw number of reports being made?

It takes me about 2 hours to do everything. And I"m using Cubbies roster file.

I'm happy to report that the source of my problem was attributable to human error. My mistake revolved around my virus scanner (I use Kaspersky). Knowing that virus scanners can often slow things down, I long ago set up an exclusion for my OOTP 8 directories to prevent Kaspersky from scanning files as they're created there. That was so long ago I forgot all about it. Of course when I set up OOTP 9, I installed it to a new directory that was no longer covered by the exclusion.

When I remembered this, I set up a new rule for the OOTP 9 directories and timed the operations. File creation now completes in 8 1/2 minutes, while the reports take 22 1/2 minutes with my current settings. That's still a little slower than under OOTP 8 (in the range of 2-4 minutes), but nothing nearly as drastic as the 45 minutes I had been experiencing.

For anyone having speed issues with file and report generation, make sure your virus scanner isn't checking your files as they're being created.

I'll try the virus exception, thanks.

I'm having these same issues (using a 2.5 ghz 4mb ram Mac book). It's taking me over an hour and 30 minutes to create my league archive. I do not have a virus scanner on my system.

Any Help would be appreciated.

The virus exception didn't work.

It still took almost 2 hours to generate HTML reports, using the exact same settings as I did with OOTP8 when it took about 35 minutes.

It takes me about 2 hours still, I do have a virus protector on here I wonder if I disabled that while doing the sim it would go faster. 2 hours just seems like such a long time. MLB settings with all levels of the minors.

anybody else having issues with this?

I mean, it's taking literally TWICE as long to generate reports as it did with OOTP8.

I have actually come to grips with the fact that I create the HTML files overnight and then extract them in the morning. Since I do my sims at night it works out pretty well. That said, it's a bit of a pain when creating reports takes almost an hour for a 20 team league with 3 levels of minors and a week's worth of reports.

This is ridiculous. Where is Markus' answer to this?
I just converted my league, but I'm damned ready to just give up OOTP altogether if the truth is you can't do a nightly sim in about an hour anymore.
What the hell changed between OOTP2007/8 and OOTP9?

I'm just about to give up entirely on this product.

I agree. It's an onerous process and it's ridiculous that there isn't a more efficient way to manage all of the reams of data the game creates.
