League: Korean Baseball Organization (KBO)

Teams: 8
Structure: One division
Roster Restrictions: The active roster limit is 26 players. Each team may have 2 foreign players on their roster. These players are exempt from the free agent rules. There is a DH.
Regular Season: The season is 126 games long, with the teams playing each other 18 times. The season starts on the first Saturday in April with a 2 game series, and ends in late September. There is an one-month spring training in March. There are no games on Mondays. Called games will be played as double-headers on the next game day. Extra-inning games are limited to 12 innings, after which a draw is announced. Games are normally at 6:30 PM on weekdays and Saturdays, 2:00 PM on Sundays and holidays. During July and August, weekday and Saturday games start at 7:00 PM, and 5:00 PM on Sundays and holidays.
Postseason: The top four teams by winning percentage at the end of the regular season play in the post-season. It begins three days after the end of the regular season. In the best-of-three semi-playoff, the 4th place team plays the 3rd place team. The first and second games are played at the 3rd place team’s stadium, the second game is played at the 4th place team’s stadium. After a one day break, the winner plays a best-of-five playoff versus the 2nd place team. The first three games are played at the 2nd place team’s stadium; after a day break the fourth and fifth games are played at the semi-playoff winner’s stadium. Finally there is the “Korean Series.” It is a best-of-seven series between the 1st place team and the winner of the playoff. The first two games are played at the 1st place team’s stadium. After a day break, the next three games are played at the winner of the playoff’s stadium. After a day break, the last two games are played at the 1st place team’s stadium. However, if both teams are not based near Seoul, only the third and fourth games are played at the winner of the playoff’s stadium. The final three are played at Chamsil Stadium, with the first-place team being the “home” team for three games. Ties in the post-season are limited to 15 innings.
All-Star Game: On the third Sunday in July there is the All Star Game. The two teams are the East (Samsung Lions, Doosan Bears, SK Wyverns and Lotte Giants) and the West (Hanwha Eagles, LG Twins, Hyundai Unicorns and Kia Tigers). The all-star break begins on the Saturday before and ends on the following Tuesday (four days, including ASG).
Tryouts/Draft: The league has a two-round draft, the first round is on the second Monday in May; the second round is on August 31. In the first round a team may select one player who graduated, or is going to graduate, or has dropped out high school. This school must be within the boundary of the club. The club receives negotiation rights with the player for two years. In the second round lasting up to nine rounds, players are chosen in reverse order of their standings at the end of the season preceding the selection.
Awards: There is an MVP, Best Pitcher, Rookie of the Year and a Best Nine team. In the Korean Series, there is the Korean Series MVP.
Salaries: The maximum salary for a player is $300,000 USD, including bonuses. A player, whose salary is $300,000 USD, may receive up to a 25% yearly increase. The average salary is probably around $60000 USD.
Free Agency: Players become free agents after 7-years experience in the league. Players with 7-years experience may play in a foreign league. Players with 9-years experience may choose to play for other Korean teams, or other teams in the world.
Minor League: There are five minor league teams that play a 76-game schedule. The teams are the Hyundai Unicorns, Doosan Bears, LG Twins, SK Wyverns, and Sangmu (a military team).
Military Service: South Korea requires compulsory military service for males 20 to 30 years old for 24-28 months, depending on the military branch involved.
Continental Qualifiers: The Korean Series winner plays in the year’s Asia Series.

I don't have the patience to gather all the data or import stats or anything for all of this, but I applaud the effort that is going to get put into this thing and I greatly look forward to the end result. Even if we just wind up with completely fictional players, as long as the leagues are created and combined with a MLB setup that would be amazing.

League: Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB)

Teams: 16
Structure: Two divisions, Zona Norte and Zona Sur
Roster Restrictions: 28 players, no more than 5 foreigners
Regular Season: 110 game season split into two halves of 55 games. Each team plays each zona opponent 12 times, 6 games per half with 3 at home and 3 away. Each team plays each inter-zona opponent 6 times, 3 games per half, with one of the season’s series at home and the other away. Each team also plays the opening two game home-away series versus a zona opponent (for 14 games versus this opponent). Series are 3 games long. Games are normally not on Mondays, two exceptions are the weekend series before the all-star game which begins on a Saturday (instead of a Friday) and the final series of the season which begins on a Monday. The season begins on the third Saturday in March and ends on the last Wednesday in July.
Postseason: 6 teams from each Zona qualify for the postseason. Qualification is based on points given out at the end of each half. Points received are in descending order of finish; the first place team receives 8 points, the second place team receives 7 points, the third through eighth place teams receive 6.5, 6, 5.5, 5, 4.5, and 4 points. Ties in record are broken by head-to-head record. The point totals are summed at the end of the season to determine playoff placing and qualification. Ties in points at the end of the regular season are broken by second-half records and then by head-to-head records. All playoff rounds are best-of-seven and follow a 2-3-2 home games format with the top seed receiving home-field advantage and a travel day in between. The first round match-ups are 1st-6th, 2nd-5th, 3rd-4th. The three series winners advance in addition to a one of the losers. The advancing loser is the team with the most wins in the playoffs with run differential as a tie-breaker. In the second round, the top seeded winner from the first round plays the advancing lose while the other first round winners play each other. If the advancing loser-top ranked matchup is a repeat, then the advancing loser plays the seond ranked team. The Zona Championship features the two winners of the second round versus each other. The League Championship features the Zona Norte Winner versus the Zona Sur Winner. In 2005, Zona Sur had home-field advantage. The First Round begins on the first Saturday after the end of the regular season (the last Saturday in July); the Second Round begins on the first Monday after the end of the First Round; Zona Championship on the following Saturday; and Finals on the following Monday.
All-Star Game: There are three days of All-Star festivities staring on the first Friday in June with an Old-Timers game. The following day there is a Home Run Derby with 16 players (8 per Zona) participating. It lasts three rounds, 16-4-2. There is an All Star MVP award.
Tryouts/Draft: There is a three round draft of players from regional leagues on the third Tuesday in January. The order is straight and is determined by lottery.

Free Agency: There is free agency. Contracted players must be bought from their teams for prices the may be upward of $300K, the player receives a portion of the purchase price. This is the only way a contracted Mexican player may be transferred to another league.

Structure: One division
Roster Restrictions: Each team is allowed to have 29 players under contract with a maximum of five imports (non-Mexicans) may be on the roster. Most players are from la Liga (the Mexican Baseball Academy in Monterrey) and imports are normally minor league players. Mexican players affiliations with a teams carry over seasons.
Regular Season: The league plays a 68-game season, split into halves of ~35/33 games. Each team plays 11 series per half plus an opening day series in the first half. Series are usually three games in length. Four opponents are played twice and three are played once in each half. Doubleheaders are somewhat common (12 in 2005-2006), and are always on Sundays. The season begins on the second Tuesday in October and ends in late December. The opening series (inaguraciones) is a two-game home-away series with a day off following it. No games are played on Mondays; an exception to this is if December 26 is a Monday, then a two-game is played beginning on the day before with previous Saturday and the following Tuesday being off days.

League: Italy - Serie A1 (ITA-A1)

Structure: One division
Roster Restrictions: Each team has a 24-man roster. Of these 12 must be fully Italian, and a maximum of 5 may be foreigners. The 7 remaining spots may be held by players with Italian citizenship (Italian-Americans, etc.). The league uses a DH.
Regular Season: 54 game regular season starting on the third Friday in April and ending approximately 21 weeks later in mid-September. Three games are played per week; usually one game on Friday at 9:00 PM, and a double header on Saturday at 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. There are no games played in the middle three weeks of July. Each team plays each opponent 6 times with one three-game series at home and one three-game series away.
Postseason: The top 4 teams qualify for the playoffs. The Semifinals (Semifinali) match-ups are 1v4 and 2v3. The tiebreaker is head-to-head record. The Semifinals start on the first Friday after the end of the regular season. They are best-of-seven in a 2-3-2 format. The first game is played on Friday with the next five games being played on Monday through Friday and the seventh game being played on the following Monday. The Finals (Finali) start 2 weeks after start of Semifinals and are also best-of-seven in a 2-3-2 format. The first two games are played on Firiday and Saturday followed by a travel day. The next three games are played from Monday to Wednesday with Thursday being a travel day. The sixth and seventh games are played on Friday and Saturday. All playoff games start at 9:00 PM.

For the CPBL, the Continental Qualifier would be the Asia Series and you are correct in that team staff would be coaches, managers, front office staff, scouts, etc.

The "Asia Series" is the one held in Nov. for the champion teams from CPBL, NPB, KBO and CBL, right?

About team staff, I can sure find out the name of coaches, managers, etc. However, I'm not sure what's the best way to translate their names (and the player names). Any suggestions?

The same point distribution is used in the Mexican Pacific Winter League.

That's cool Le Grande Orange ( or should I call you Rusty? ), I didn't even know there was TWO Mexican Leagues, but how will the split season be possible with OOTP. The season isn't going to reset itself is it?

Hmmm. That does seem odd. I got my info from a Baseball Fever thread maintained by an avid Cuban baseball fan, which dates from November 2005. He makes no mention of SdC at all. SdC were the National League champs in 2004, so perhaps that has something to do with it? I.e. the champs play in the Super League?

That's just a guess, though, I can't be much help, I'm afraid.

League: Liga de Beisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico (LBPPR)

Teams: 6
Structure: One division
Roster Restrictions: Each team is allowed to have 40 players under contract divided into two rosters; a 25-man active roster and a 15-man reserve roster. A maximum of five imports (non-Puerto Ricans) may be on the roster. Most players are minor league or marginal major league players, some players may be Puerto Ricans from the Double A division of Puerto Rican baseball.
Regular Season: The regular season (primera vuelta) lasts 40 games with each team playing eight games versus each opponent. The league begins on the second Friday in November and lasts until early January. There are no series, although most teams play at home versus a two-game home-away set versus an opponent. Games are usually played at 7:30 PM, except on Sundays when games are scheduled for 4:00 PM. No games are played on Mondays, the fourth Thursday in November, December 24, 25, 31 or January 1. An exception to the no Monday games rule is if December 26 is a Monday, then a game is played on this day and on the following Monday. Every other Monday (beginning with the second) is reserved for making up rainouts as are the days leading up to the postseason.

Dominican Winter League (DWL)
Teams: 6

Regular Season: Fifty game schedule, each team plays each other ten times. It begins on the nineteenth of October and ends on the 22nd of December.
Postseason: The top four advance to a further round robin of eighteen games (6 against each other, two three game series). The top two from this round robin go to a nine-game championship series. A difficult format to recreate on OOTP, that one.
Allstar Game: There is an allstar game (and break) which comes forty games into the season. The break begins on the 10th of December, with the game itself on the 12th. The game actually matches the Dominican Winter League all-stars against the best players from the Puerto Rican Winter League. Again, not very OOTP-friendly, unless we consider these two sub-leagues of a general Winter League. There is also a Home Run derby, with three players from each team taking part (this is on the same day as the game). The ASG has an MVP.
Tryouts / Draft: Each year there is a rookie draft. As there is no free agency, plenty of players remain on the same team for life. So all DR MLB players have an assigned Winter League team if they should choose to come over and play, as this is decided in their youth. If they come back to DR after a long break, they still play with the team they were originally assigned to (excepting if they are traded or released of course) Note: Many MLB players from the DR do not play the whole Winter League season even if they do play. They often play only from mid-November onwards.
Awards: MVP, Manager of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Pitcher of the Year. All awards have official (league-awarded) versions, and 'Dominican First', highly-regarded but unofficial, awards which can only be awarded to DR-born players.

Well man I'm Dominican, and a big fan of the DWL, so I'll see what I can get for you. The salaries will be almost impossible to get since teams don't make public their payroll figures. A friend of mine used to work for one of the teams and he told me that the *highest paid player* on the team back then made around $10,000 USD / month; but this was around 6 years ago...

There is a foreign player limit. Last year it was 6. It used to be 8 but they cut it to 6 last season.

And yeah there are no limits for how many players you can have in your roster... BUT, you can only have 30 players on your "active roster" which can be modifided daily... also every year there is a "reserves draft" kind of like the Rule V in the MLB, teams protect players and can draft from the remaining players...

I'll try to get you the dimensions for the parks you are missing this week. I even know a person that calculates "park factors" for each park every year(he's not a friend of mine but I know him, I could probably ask him for them).

League: Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP)

Teams: 8
Structure: Two divisions; División Oriental, División Occidental
Roster Restrictions: Each team is required to have between 18 and 26 players under contract and on their roster. A maximum of eight foreigners may be on the roster; their contracts may not be canceled mid-season. Substitutions may be made prior to each playoff round (including foreigners); 4 substitutions may be done prior to the round robin, and 2 prior to the finals. There is also a 75-man protected player list which must be submitted by October 20th. These are the only players that may be signed by a team and the team has exclusive rights over these players (they may not be signed by other LVBP teams). [I believe this is how the protected players system works. This rule 8.06 from the LVBP’s rules list, located here (pdf), if I have understood this rule incorrectly can some please tell me.] The league uses a designated hitter.
Regular Season: The regular season is 62 games long. Each team plays ten games (5, home; 5, away) versus each divisional opponent and eight games (4, home; 4, away) versus each non-divisional opponent. There are no series to speak of, although most teams do have home-stands with different opponents daily. Games are rarely played on Mondays, most often this occurs in the last month of the season and there is never a full slate of games. No games are played on December 24 and December 25. Double-headers are sometimes schedules and are usually on the weekend. The league begins on the second Friday in October and lasts for twelve weeks until late December. Weekday games start at 7:30 PM, Saturday games usually start between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, one Sunday games starts at 1:00 PM (televised) and the other games start at 4:00 PM or 5:30 PM.
Postseason: The top two teams in each division along with the third place team with the highest winning percentage advance to the first stage of the playoffs, a Round Robin. Each team plays each other team four times (two at home and two away) for a total of 16 games. The top two teams advance to the finals, a best-of-seven series with home field advantage given to the top ranked team in the semifinals (2-3-2). The Round Robin begins on the first Wednesday after the end of the regular season and continues for 20 days at two games per day. The finals begin on the first Wednesday after the completion of the Round Robin. There are no travel days in the finals. Weekday games start at 7:30 PM, weekend games usually start between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.
All-Star Game: There is and all-star game played on the Tuesday after the eighth week of the season (usually around December 1). There is an all-star gala and no games on the day before the game.

League: Shikoku Island League (SIL)

Teams: 4
Structure: One division
Roster Restrictions: The maximum roster size is 22 players. All players must be between 17 and 27 years old without any prior NPB (including ni-gun) experience or having been drafted by an NPB team. Each team is allowed a manager, two coaches and two trainers. The league also employs a dozen “traveling coaches.” Players are allocated to teams by the league; there is also a league-wide reserved player list.
Regular Season: The regular season is 90 games long, split into two halves of 45 games. Each team plays 20 games (15, home; 15, away) versus each opponent. Games are rarely played on weekdays. Most series are three games in length and played from Friday to Sunday with a different opponent daily. Teams do have home stands. The league begins on the first Saturday in April and lasts until the first Sunday in October. The first half ends around July 1st. Friday games usually start at 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday games usually start at 1:00 PM or 2:00 PM. Each team plays a varying amount of “home” games outside their primary stadium but within their prefecture.
Postseason: The winners of each half meet in the league championship at the end of the season.

The following two leagues are academy leagues run by MLB clubs in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

League: Dominican Summer League (DSL)

Teams: 32
Structure: Six divisions; División Cibao, División Boca Chica (divided into Americana and Nacional subdivisions), División Santo Domingo Oeste, Division Santo Domingo Norte, and División San Pedro de Macorís
Roster Restrictions: There is a roster limit of 35 players, with 30 being active and eligible to play in a given game (teams usually have between 10 and 20 inactive players training at their camps as well). No more than eight players may be 20 years old or older and no more than two players may be 21 years old or older. At least 10 of the players must be pitchers. No player may have four or more years of prior Minor League service. Most players are Dominican.
Regular Season: All divisions play 72 games over 84 calendar days, except for Cibao which plays 68 games. The league start date is the first Saturday in June and the end date is the last Friday in August. The Santo Domingo Oeste, Santo Domingo Norte, and San Pedro de Macorís divisions do not play games on Sundays. The Boca Chico division has a rotating off-day (due to an odd number of teams through out the season) as well as two division-wide off days. The Cibao division does not have off-days. There are no inter-divisional games. The Santo Domingo Oeste, Santo Domingo Norte, and San Pedro de Macorís divisions have game start times at 10:30 AM; Cibao games start at 12:00 PM; Boca Chica games start at 11:30 AM.
Postseason: The six divisional (counting Boca Chica’s two subdivisions separately) winners advance to the playoffs and are ranked by their winning percentage. The top two ranked teams receive a bye to the second round of the playoffs. The remaining teams play in the best-of-three series (Primera Serie Semi-Final), with first and second games played at the higher ranked team’s field. The winners advance to the best-of-three series, the Segunda Serie Semi-Final. The top ranked team plays versus the lowest ranked advancing team; the other two teams play versus each other. The first and second games played at the higher ranked team’s field. The winners advance to the best-of-five Serie Final for league championship. The series is played at the higher ranked team’s home field for the first, third, and fifth games. The playoffs begin on the first Sunday after the end of the regular season and there is an off-day between each round.
All-Star Game: There is an all-star game on the third Sunday in July.

Infrastructure costs range from around $200K to a few million (the Colorado Rockies spend $1.2 million on their facilities and are a mid-range team). In 2005, the league had players from Aruba, Brazil, Colombia, Curaçao, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
