I think the best thing to do, rather than continue wondering how bad this will be or how negative you think this might be, is to wait for testers to post a blog and maybe you will get to see some comparisons. I think Marc mentioned this possibility in a previous thread somewhere.

Just sit back and wait to see how good or bad this conversion will be. Right now we are all splitting hairs.

Wow, didn't realize that the importing of prior version leagues wasn't finalized til a shade over 2 weeks to go to release. I guess that's all I need to now about it's positioning on the priority list.

It's really not that major.
So - what about for those retired players?

Career minor league stats

Too bad that wont convert.

But what happens to ghost players? In ootp 2006 there is no ghost players.

So what happens when you convert from ootp 6.5 to ootp 2006?

I guess we all have to sign a lot of players to fill up the minors after we export?

What fun is that?

In all honesty I agree with you but now you're just talking rational common sense. That has nothing to do with old timers venting spleen.

What is the point of venting, when we have yet to see what exactly we will be missing or not missing.

I wish all people on this board would use common sense and not jump to conclusions. Man I am sounding like a moderator

Or maybe the database and other essential parts needed to be fully coded first in order for the conversion to be coded???

Well, backwards compatibility is nearly ALWAYS a nice-to-have, unless you're trapped by your own user base (ahem: Microsoft). Wouldn't make much sense to create a product that expertly loads previous versions, but you can't actually play the current version... I don't think it's a reflection of Markus' sentiments on support for V6.5. It's just that, worst case, he could have potentially released a working game without backwards compatibility. He could not have done the reverse, though.

'Cause they're afraid of change? We knew it would be a new database. We knew some things would get left behind. Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. It'll mean change. Everyone should chill for a moment, wait 2 ******* weeks and get the game and play it and see if it maybe just is better than the system you had before. Do you mourn the passing of the LP or the 8-Trac? Me and my ipod sure as hell don't. We have a new game here and it will change the way we do alot of things in OOTP terms. And IMO from what I've seen so far the positives will far outweigh anything that gets left behind.

Oh and good catch BTW bababui. This isn't the place to advertise for competitors. And, how much of your OOTP league will convert into Puresim? My guess is absolutely nothing ... still, anyone who wants to jump ship fine, I'll build you a plank.

There is no point. But when has that ever stopped people?

Now how many of us ever got to transfer a Madden Dynasty from one version to another? Or virtually any other game? The lack pf perspective here is kinda sad. At least Markus made an effort to do what he could to allow a transfer. The old saying rings true...'No good deed ever goes unpunished'.

Edited to add: I didnt see Zitpfans post when I wrote this. Needless to say I agree. ;-)

That remains to be seen. I hope (and expect) that you are right, but we just don't know yet, do we?

All Puresim 2005 associations - and I have a number of them and so do a number of others on this board - will import perfectly into Puresim 2007.

Jump ship? Well, I sure don't have to jump anywhere, as I've been a Puresim player since it first came out. Ditto Diamond Mind Baseball.

I guess we all have to wait and see the game, but I still don't understand, from a 5000 ft. level, why data such as prior champs and award winners could not be simply added to the records of the OOTP2006 league. Perhaps there could be shortcomings, such as not being searchable such as other champs and awards from OOTP2006-simmed seasons, but it just seems it should be able to be included.

Ditto with player histories... couldn't they just be appended to the OOTP2006 player histories and simply not be as searchable or useful as the OOTP2006-generated data?

Finally, it sounds like team records, etc. won't be editable at all? That feature would obviously solve a lot of problems since I wouldn't mind manually inputting the old records achieved prior to a OOTP2006 season.

I'm going to close out my involvement in this thread.

The importing will not be all that I had hoped it would be. I am disappointed in that. Not ranting, not mad, just disappointed.

On the other hand, things certainly could have been worse. Let's all hope and pray that OOTP2006 is so wonderful that we never, ever miss the league histories we are going to lose.

Life moves on, and so does gaming.

You made my point. I've heard enough "the sky is falling" predictions on this board and so far, they've all been wrong. We'll see but right now I'm choosing not to stress.

Can you import MVP 2004 into MVP 2005?
