ping, Mal
MD, not wanting to tread on yourtoes, I do have a bit of experience in arabic, am linguist and worked middle east for 7 years, and have been asked to do a Muslim name file. Never having done anything like that, can you give me details of how to set it up. Just comma delineated firsty and last names? Appreciate any advice. ty
special problem with arab names is that all can be 1st and last wwith ibn meaning son of, lots of sons of in arab names. bint is daughter of

There are two name files, 1 for given names and 1 for surnames. It will be easy to insert the names in the game text files when it is released.
Basically create two txt files, and you can pop them in. I am sure instructions will be forthcoming on how to set your nation up and set the frequency of the names. |

basically, in arabic there are no 1st or last names, mostly just a name ibn(son of) and his fathers name. so just using the 99 names of god might suffice. clan or tribal names go back to common ancestors, ie, beni hashem are descendents of hashem, grandfather of muhammid

![]() on a serious note (for a change in one of these threads), would OOTP support UTF-8 encoding or would you have to put all names in Western Europe characters like how we're typing here? I ask not only for this, but for other languages that dont' use our character set.

1. Assign frequency data to the name file. You'll have to seat of the pants it, but you've been over there so you have a rough idea of frequencies. 1 is the base frequency, I would suggest making 20 your most common.
The file format is Name, frequency and it ends with a "#" 2. Now do your surnames as you proposed using the above data. Assign frequencies. Make a surname file with the the format Surname, frequency and it ends with a "#" (look familiar?) 3. Do this RIGHT AWAY (like tonight) 4. PM Battists when done and get his email address 5. Get the files to him ASAP If you do this he *may* be able to convert them to OOTP 2006 format and get them into the game in time for release. Obviously I can't promise anything for the game or him, though. Good luck. Mal, disrespected names guru

Mal, u r truly remarkable/ except fpr dupes caused by spelling same names differently, list is great. abdul is actually half a name tho, as it means slave of the abd is slave, al is the definite article and may be followed by any of your name list names. and there is no need for a 2nd name file. as there are none, people ae known as son of (ibn) followed by fathers name. altogether a fine list, ty.
so in using list can use abdulrahman ibn abd alaziz, that was ibn saud, father of all the saudi kings, for example, tho full name was abdalazaiz ibn abdalraman alfeisal al saud, but he was a king
