And another thing, Tiger Fan
Just a quickie.
If you do a historical sim and you change every year, according to history, what do you do from 1941-1945? Is there an option to just skip the leagues or do you play through it? |

Thank you so much! This thread has convinced me that this version of OOTP will be the most immersive yet. I like playing semi-historical sims (starting in the mid-90's or late 80's) and the biggest reality-block in my mind was the lack of league history that would take so long to create in prior versions. I'm looking forward to starting a sim back as far as the game will go and then saving quickstarts every couple of decades in case for some reason I get moved to play in the 40's or the 70's. This is possible, right? Am I misunderstanding that feature?
Also, I want to thank all of you for contributing to such a positive thread the day before release. There's so much to be happy about with this version, I don't understand how some people can still complain. As the recent blogs and Markus' interview have said, no game is going to be perfect for everybody. Compared to the other games I've tried, this one seems to be the most versatile, statistically and strategically accurate, and (most importantly) most fun game in the genre. I've only lurked in the forums for a long time because of a lot of the negativity, but am glad to be contributing at a time when everybody's spirits are high. Tomorrow night couldn't come soon enough... |

Altus - Don't worry about the WWII seasons of 1942-1945. We already changed the historical league expectancy totals for these seasons to the historical ratios of the seasons directly before and after the war. This way you won't get a drastic decrease in HRs and other offensive categories during these seasons.

Lahman is just the actual raw historical stats. My DB is modified.
But what I was referring to in my post is that regardless of what DB you use, the game will not assume a major decrease in offense during WWII. However, you should get better results from my modified DB (when it is finished) which has player stats already in tune with these modified expectancies. |

I think we shouldn't worry about "Did x play a full career?" or not. To me, part of the fun of a historical sim is the unknown element. What might have happened if Ted Williams had a career ending injury IRL? Or, on the flipside, if Sandy Koufax had played out a full career? Historicals are as unpredictable as fictionals or modern day players, we just have the benefit of knowing what happened in the past.
