First post. WOO HOO. I like blogs.

I'm not a huge historical player, but I do play occasionally.

I really like the two checkbox features that Garlon talked about.

Harmon Killebrew finally gets the credit he deserves!

Lou Gehrig was amazing. 741 HRs and 4000 hits, 2415 RBIs? WOW! How many Triple Crowns did he win?

I like to sim MLB history in order to have history for my own league, so this is great.

The key for both Gehrig and Killebrew was their longevity in this sim. They rank 1-2 all time in games played. Killebrew was also helped immensely by being around for both expansions. The funny thing with Killebrew is he actually had a slightly higher homer/at bat ratio in real life as compared to my sim, but they were quite close.

Gehrig won just 2 triple crowns:

1930 (.383, 69, 177) and 1932 (.371, 46, 119). He had 3 other seasons when he won 2 of the 3 categories and finished 2nd, 2nd and 5th in the third.

I am in the middle of running a test right now but if there is a player or two anyone wants to hear about I will do my best to give you a quick recap.

I haven't even finished reading the blogs yet, but I have to pull this fantastic quote out and give props to Markus for bringing it about:

"No more tinkering with league settings (unless you want to) as the game will automatically re-calcuate league settings and modifiers each year. In fact, you can even run a completely fictional league with player creation tweaked automatically for the era so that the players skills will mimic those of their real life counterparts."

I have been wishing and lobbying for something like this for a long time. Thanks.

Rudy May....3,518 career strikeouts? Hmmm...

If nothing else, these results are fascinating.

Rennie Stennett and Don Money up there in the Hits leaderboard ... fascinating. What happened to Pete Rose, injuries or did gambling catch him early?

"The second option I want to talk about is called “Automatically import historical player-creation modifiers”. If you want to run a straight historical league with only historical players from a DB, you don’t need this option enabled. This option is for generating fictional players. What kind of fictional players? Well, fictional players whose ratings look like they are of historical players from any time frame you want from 1871 - 2005. This allows you to create a fictional baseball universe that mimics the evolution of historical baseball. So let’s say you start a fictional league in 1904 with this option enabled. The game will generate players whose ratings are similar to real players who played from 1904 - 1918 (we used 15-year equivalencies to create the modifiers for each season). When the rookie draft comes along for the next season these modifiers automatically get updated so that your 1905 rookie class looks like players who had a career span from 1905-1919, and your 1906 rookie class will look like players who played from 1906-1920 and so forth. As you move from the Deadball Era into the 1920’s you will start to see rookies who have higher HR Power ratings and changes in other ratings that track the evolution of historical baseball. Now you say, “How can I be sure that the ratios of the league totals in my fictional league will stay consistent with historical baseball just because my players are being generated with the types of ratings that mimic historical baseball from season to season?” EASY! Check the box I described in the first option called “Automatically adjust league totals modifiers after each season for historical accuracy”. Using this feature in conjunction with the historical player-creation modifiers will keep your fictional league on track from season to season. You can now run a fictional universe with any # of teams you like and have your league develop and evolve just like historical baseball!"

I had no idea this was going to make it into the game, and that it did is just fabulous. Maybe it seems strange that I am so excited about what might look like a minor thing, but the absence of something like this has been my major disappointment with OOTP ever since I started playing OOTP 4. Amazing. Well done fellas.

No, I used Lahman 5.3 but I expect when I starting playing for real as opposed to testing I will be using the new arod/garlon db.

So no additions of war years to careers that lost time? And no Negro Leaguers
