Transaction Logs too Noisy
Okay... I did some searching on this but didn't find anything. Maybe "major", "complete", and "transaction" are just too common...
In my opinion, the transaction logs are still way too noisy. I think the "Major" transaction log has the right idea, but because there's so much minor league movment in OOTP, it can be very difficult to get to the information you probably care about the most. From what I can tell, the "Major" log includes ALL these kinds of transactions. Major Transaction: 1) Major league promotion 2) Minor league demotion 3) Waiver claim 4) DFAs/Waivers 5) Personnel signings/firings 6) Player trades And here are the things I see on the "Complete" log. Complete Transaction: 1) 40-man roster moves 2) Players being outright released 3) Players being signed to minor league contracts 4) Minor league assignments 5) Personnel signings/firings This doesn't make much sense to me. I would think the "Complete" log would include ALL transactions and the "Major" log would include only inter-team player movement. But instead we have this setup where there's some overlap between the two logs, but not everything on the Major makes it on Complete, and some things that are on Complete but not on Major (releases and possibly minor-league FA signings) probably should be on Major. I just don't understand the logic. The following setup would make much more sense to me. Complete Log: includes ALL transactions, inter-team and intra-team player movement, waiver movement - everything Major Log: includes trades, signings, DFAs, releases, personnel movements, promotions/demotions, waiver claims - the normal stuff you might see in the newspaper "Transactions" section. This would be a subset of the Complete Log. Movement Log: someone could probably think of a better name for this - but basically only transaction news that involves a player going from one organization to another (including free agency, releases, and retirement). This would be a subset of the Major Log. The third type of log will make a lot of people's lives easier. It's a pain sorting through all the minor league movement to get an idea of the trades and player signings/claimings that occured. Anyone agree or know of a way to filter this stuff out in the game the way it is right now? Anyone else think this would be a good idea for a future version? Being able to do filters on transaction type in the news would be even better (e.g. "Show me only trades" or "show me only players placed on waivers"), but that might be too much to ask depending on how transaction histories are stored within the game. Alright, I'm done rambling - opinions welcome. |

This topic is something that's bugged me for awhile. Some points:
1) You're right, the complete log should include everything. 2) I'd rather them all be referred to movement logs rather than transactions logs. To me a transaction is an agreement of some sort between two parties. A promotion or demotion is definitely movement, but I certainly wouldn't call it a transaction. Some of those things are transactions, like trades and signings, but all of them are movement. 3) The major log, in my mind, should only include that movement which involves big league players. 4) Like you, I would like to see the ability to only bring up logs of one type rather than have to skim through different types. 5) With the option of #4, I'd make 5 logs: complete movement log, major league movement log, minor league movement log, inter-organization movement log, intra-organization movement log. EDIT: Changed the inter- and intra-teams to inter- and intra-organizations for clarification.

It's too noisy because there are too many transactions. The AI seems to put every schlub they pick up on the 40-man roster, thus displacing somebody else. It's amazing.
