Game Doing Funky Things With Names
Just went in and edited all of the head managers in my solo league and gave them names I'd been using for managers in ootp6. But, when I ran a test after the first season I noticed a player named Bil E. Now, that was strange because I'm using the American names file and have edited my nations file to use only American names. So, I checked the free agents and low and behold the game was taking parts of my created manager names and assigning them to newly created free agents. (I have no minor leagues so the game creates new players as free agents after every season.)
Anyway here are the funky names I found... Gr Ringlr Cliff Robi Ca Manni G Goodw Ra Mi Ke Mil B Milln Newport Eldri Geoge Ell Geoge Bakely G Mani Gra Sawn Ryan Goodw All of these are plays on the names I gave to head skippers. Check um... Graham Sawness Ray Manning Snickers Maloy Clifford Eldridge Ken Robinson George Eskew Cap Ellison John Millner Ryan Goodwin ... to name a few. Anyway, not sure why this is happening, (or if it's a planned feature), but it means I'll have to go in and edit free agents after they are created. No big deal but I sure wish this did not happen as it makes for more work. Not sure if this happens when player names are edited, as I've yet to do that, but it certainly happens when manager names are edited. Anyone else notice this? PS: Just wanted make sure folkes took note of this, especially if they like to edit player or manager names. Might be best if you don't, as it could mean more work cleaning up your rookie pool and newly created free agent names. Last edited by DreamTeams; 06-25-2006 at 01:07 PM. |

Update:
Went back to a recent quick start and tried to rename/edit managers to their original names assigned them by the game. No success. Fortunately, I have an earlier quick start with the original manager names. But, it'll take a load of time to whip it into the shape I had my recent league file. This is very disappointing and quite defeating. This game is too much work. I need a break from this for a time. Warning still stands: Don't rename your managers and possibly even your players. It basically destroys the name file that is stored within the game after you press the 'start league' button. Your name text files will be ok, but apparently those are no longer used after you press the 'start league button.' |

I made the mistake of downloading my copy of OOTPB from the Yoyodyne servers. All of my players were named John:
John Whorfin John Gomez John O'Connor John Yaya John Small Berries John Parrot John BigBoote... Those of you who are getting the drift of this and are laughing at my incredibly adept pop reference can stand up and pat yourselves on the back for understanding this little joke. And now you can sit down, the both of you. For the rest of the planet: http://www.alicia-logic.com/capscomm...psBuckaroo.asp |

I've seen this problem mentioned before by other folks. It strikes me as being funny for some reason. But yeah, hopefully they'll see it this time and fix it in Patch 2.
