Incorrect history upon league restructuring

I didn't see anything about this around, so I figured I'd start a thread.

I restructured my league during the offseason from 1 division per subleauge to 2 and moved teams around. Unfortunately, this screwed up the league history. When I look back at the last season where there was one division per league, it's wrong. It has the divisional assignments as they are now rather than as they were during that season.

This is a pretty big bug for me, as I tend to do a lot of moving teams around and adding teams in offseasons. Is there any way around it? Is this something that always happens. It's really frustrating and disappointing to me. I thought it was okay to make structural changes in the offseason now.

I plan to run one configuration for twenty years and another for 80 years to create a pre-history. Then begin my ultimate league.

I hope that this is possible. I don't want to play a 100 years, restructure my league from 240 teams to 60 and then find out that my pre-history is all fouled up.

I, too, hope that restructuring doesn't foul up the league history.

I hope Markus will check this out and let up know, if this is indeed true.

If you change the league structure in the off-season, then the league's history for that year has not been written and the new structure will be written into the previous season's history. If you want the league history to be correct, then you must make the changes to the league structure during the preseason.

Incidentally, I found another piece of interesting information to pass on while testing. If your chages to the league structure would change the number of rounds in the playoffs, your playoffs will be wrong for the first year under the new structure. In my test league, I started with 2 sub-leagues of two divisions. I changed the structure such that I had 3 divisions in each league. So, the playoffs should have an extra round, as I have added the third division to each league. Au contraire! During the first season under the new structure, the playoffs featured only two rounds. In the first round, the #1 seed and the #3 seed (3rd best record among the division winners) played while the #2 seed and the wild card team sat out. After the league went through an off-season/preseason cycle without any changes to the number of playoff rounds, the correct playoff format was used.

Bottom Line - Do your restructuring during the preseason.

The problem with doing it in the preseason is that newly added teams get shut out of things like the free agent period and all that offseason trading time. That's why offseason restructuring was added to begin with. Now it needs to be fixed. The history should be written at the end of the season, probably right when players file for free agency or maybe arbitration, or, better yet, right when the last award is given out.

Will restructuring during the preseason also insure the playoffs will be accurate?

Or will the first year playoffs after restructuring still be incorrect?

Preseason restructuring seems to work fine on all levels, as far as I can tell. Offseason restructuring was added after the initial release because without it, expansion teams don't have much access to free agents or winter player movement, which is a bit annoying and unrealistic. Unfortunately, until this is fixed, I guess we should not do offseason restructuring.
