OOTP 2007 vs. Worldwide Soccer Manager 2007
I recently purchased Worldwide Soccer Manager 2007 from SI and I have really gotten into the game. It is an excellent game and has lots of nice aspects that hopefully can enrich OOTP one day (see my other posts).
That being said, playing Worldwide Soccer Manager 2007 has made me appreciate OOTP even more. The flexibility that the OOTP team has built into the game is really amazing and you miss it when playing Worldwide Soccer Manager. You can't nearly customize your leagues as well. It has some nice features, but if you mess around with their outside-of-game editor you run a great risk of building a league that simply doesn't work. (As all of my attempts at an All-Ireland Soccer League have failed). You can't even edit the league structure well or change league rules in WWSM07. Markus, Andreas & co do a phenomenal job and I think we all know that v2006 was an amazingly ambitious step forward in potential and scope even if it had a lot of bugs and was not perfectly executed. I'm sure that v2007 will rough out the edges. Since I have been whining a little bit about some of my wish list items not making v2007, I thought I would share this positive feedback. If you play Worldwide Soccer Manager 2007 or any other sim game, I think you'll come back to appreciating what we have with OOTP. Also, I pre-ordered which I guess is what really counts at the end of the day

Having said that, can you elaborate on the "aspects" that you think would enrich OOTP?

The managerial career progression is a great part of FM (soccer manager), but part of what really makes that game come alive for a lot of people is the "lower league management", in which, due to the promotion/relegation concept in soccer leagues, you can take a barebones semi-pro team from the bottom all the way to the top.
A major part of the media interaction is the effect it has on player morale, though it also reflects your relationships with the players as well, and how likely they are to want to stay at your club. I'm not sure how the entire thing is modelled. It is an amazing game. I think that the key thing about that game is that the AI teams also scout for undiscovered players and make runs at them, so there is competition for them. It makes it exciting to chase after the talented players and hope you land them (it's also a lot more fair to the AI teams). I'm not sure whether that has been integrated into ootp07 or not.
