Andreas told me earlier this year he could build OOTP on Linux but the thing holding them back from releasing a Linux port is the lack of copy protection on Linux. I spent a good amount of time during this years beta trying to find adequate copy protection for Linux but to no avail. The whole premise of Linux is diametrically opposed to copy protection so you can see why this is a problem.

To be honest, that never occurred to me.

Ultimately, the only thing that doesn't work through Wine is FTP. If that could be troubleshot, it'd be a non-issue.

Not totally as you'd see a significant speed increase. Besides you could load a slimmed down version of Ubuntu on a flash drive, set it so OOTP loads on boot, and play OOTP on just about any machine with a USB port. Now THAT would be cool.

This thread is as old as they come, but I recently starting dabbling in Ubuntu, and thought I would test out Wine with OOTP 8 free edition. This post helped me out greatly. Thank you
