Injuries, Off-Field & Otherwise
Very happy to finally see off-field injuries make it into the game, after being little more than a myth for lo these many years.
However... I'm fairly certain there's no way to control the frequency of specific injuries within the game. Therefore, I'm assuming the occurances are hard-coded. While it's nice that we can finally customize the off-field injuries, I'm wondering how often we'll actually be seeing them in the game. Will they show up every few weeks in the injury report or will there just be a rare email telling you one of your players hurt his arm in a bar fight or whatever? And perhaps the bigger question... Won't the truly bizarre injuries be just as frequent as more common events, like car accidents or injuries from working out? IMHO, there really needs to be another variable in both the injuries.txt and off-field injuries.txt files that determines the rate at which certain injuries occur. Maybe a simple frequency boolean could be added. For instance, adding the number 1000 would mean, on any given day, there is a 1-in-1000 chance of the event occuring. I think this would help the game to more accurately reflect real life. Just a thought for a patch or '08 (The first of MANY, I'm sure! )

I think that the Injuries text file has something in there to control the occurances. Not 100% positive, but I think I read that somewhere. And beside, last years were editable, because someone made on that was a little more accurate than the one inculded in the game.

For regular injuries, the variables are: min Inj Time, max Inj Time,DTD %,Season End Bool,Career Ending Possible Bool,While Pitching/Throwing Bool,While Running/Sliding Bool,Collision Bool,HBP/Fight Bool,Illness Bool,Body Part Code,Diagnosis, descriptive phrase,, For off-field injuries, there are only 4 variables: type of injury, light injury (0 = doesn't matter, 1 = yes),minimum year (0 = does not matter),injury event Unfortunately, nothing in either file to control the frequency.

Yeah, you can only set the overall injury frequency in the game setup, not for individual injury types.

I only play with fictional players and like for them to play so I always set injuries to VERY LOW, even with this setting I still get enough players injured.
Not complaining, but it was funny. I started my Wisconsin as a Nation Baseball League. 16 teams, plus 2 level of minors and 48 college feeder teams. First week in the season and I had two 12 month injuries, and two 5 week injuries at the MLB level (roster size - 22) One of the 12 month injuries took place prior to Spring Training!!!! COOL enhancement. Wish it were the other guys team though
