Retired players

Is the retired.dat file interchangable? I would like to start a fictional league but with the real MLB leaderboards (Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron). So I was wondering if I could take a retired.dat file from one of the real rosters and plug it in a fictional mlb setup?

I remember this being an easy process before 2006, why can we not do this anymore? Can Markus change it?

Well, if you want to do that, then the right way would be to import the Lahman database and check the "Import Entire League History" box. That will bring in all of the real players and history up to that point and put them in the retired list and show all the right leaderboards.

I don't think the retired.dat is interchangeable anymore, because the players keep their id's. They don't get a new "retired" id when they retire like in the older versions.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the "fictional" part. I think you can still do this, though. Create a historical league, then use the game to add a fictional league to the universe and move the teams around. I'll play with it and get you better instructions.

OK, sorry about that. Here's what you have to do...

Create an historical league starting in whatever year you want to start your fictional league and tell it to import entire league history. So, if you want to start in 2007, then make a 2006 historical league (can't import 2007 history unless you have a time machine).

Once you import them, go to League Setup and use the Function "Release All Players/Clear Rosters". That will dump the historic players into the FA pool. Then, go to the FA screen and hit the "Delete All Free Agents" button.

Now, you have a clean slate to rearrange the teams and divisions however you want.

Go back to league setup and fill all teams with fictional players, then hit the "Release all players & schedule inaugural draft".

Also, remember to go into the rules and UNCHECK the "Automatically Import Historical Rookies" box under Rules and uncheck all the Historical things under Options.

Thanks, this is probably my only option. I will have to edit the minor leagues to the real teams and leagues.
