Weirdest 'freak injury' ?

What is your weirdest freak injury? I know things happen and every now and then people fracture their fingers but.... Derek Jeter is on the shelf for 1 - 2 weeks with a fractured finger..... he injured it during a shark attack??? Man oh man... wait til George hears about this.

In one of my test leagues, one of my players (I can't remember who, it may have been a fictional league) was out for a week or two (again, I can't remember) with a broken nose. It occurred while attempting a high-five with a teammate.

There have already been a couple posts about players being hit by coyotes.

I think there should be a carpal tunnel injury from playing too much OOTP. Now THAT would be hilarious.

Not really a freak injury, but I've seen a lot of position players on the shelf with dead arms.

This happened during a game, but a player on another team in my league was out 3-4 weeks with a bruised cheekbone.

One of my players got injured for 8-9 months for a miscalculation with a knife while cutting onions. Weird part he was already out for 11 months with a baseball related injury

It would be nice to have era specific injuries. I remember when I used to pore over the big baseball yearly almanacs that there were a lot of sore arm and dead arm issues in the early part of the century.

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

There are era-specific injuries. If you look at the injuries.txt file, you'll see a year on some lines. These injuries won't be seen before that date. No car accidents in 1905, for example ...

One includes "Partied too hard" starting in 1999 ...

That's not that weird, considering plenty of people have gotten hit by coyotes.

I really wish there was a maximum year for injuries to appear. I love the idea of minimums, for stuff like cars, but in my current 1890's universe, I'd love to have stuff like carriages and that sorta age-approppiate stuff.

Heh, this happened to me as well. My star second basemen was out for 9 weeks and the week before he was eligible to come back he got his fingers stuck in a bowling ball...out for two more weeks. What the hell was he doing bowling when he was on the DL?

He had to do something while he was out. Might as well do something you usually have no shot at getting injured at. Usually.

True. However, there will be a no bowling clause in his next contract.
