I just can't win in the playoffs

I've made the playoffs 11 times in my 22 year league. Only one time I made it to the world series but lost. My playoffs are only one 7 game series then the world series. The last two years I've had a 3 games to 1 lead but lost them both in game 7. I really wanted to throw my pc thew the window.
I might as well manage the Atlanta Braves.

Anyone else have really horrible luck in the playoffs?

I managed one World Series win in six playoff appearances. We had three rounds of playoffs.

In the first two years I had my best teams and went out in seven game NLCSs each time. In the last four years I lost three WS, totalling only two victories between them.

The one I took (in seven) was with my worst team, and Nomar Garciaparra won it for me singlehandedly. In each of the seven games Nomar scored and/or drove in over half of my runs, and he drove in the winning run in all four victories. Of course, Nomar had the winning habit, having been acquired from the team that had won the three previous World Series (beating me twice).

No cupcakes anymore. Now you play teams who play above .500 ball.

This is a good thing, well maybe not 11 playoffs and no wins but making it harder is better

Yes. It's almost as if a different program module kicks in during the playoffs. All of a sudden, your ace pitcher with 2.24 ERA gives up seven runs in five innings. Your MVP candidate goes 2 for 21, that sort of thing. You would expect some of this, naturally, but I have noticed it too often for it to be random, I think. Rather than luck, I wonder if the game is designed this way.

I think everybody knows by now that the playoffs are a crapshoot. If you stuck the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in there one year, just for the heck of it, even they have a chance to win.

In my leagues, I've seen lots of 110+ win teams get beat in short series by teams who won only 85, 86 games. Which leads me to believe that in baseball, there is a lot of luck involved. On a fly ball down the line, only a couple of inches can mean the difference between a big three-run homer or a long strike.

This is why in one of my leagues, I don't even have playoffs. The regular season determines the true champion.

I had the same thing happen to me (although not numerous years) In my 2nd season, (Historical, 1978) I coasted to a 105 win season, and in the best of 5 NLCS, my ace (Richard Wortham 20-4) got shelled for 7 runs in the first inning and lost, then my 2nd best pitcher got shelled for 8 runs in the first three innings and lost gm 2. I ended up losing a decisive game 5, with my ace getting shelled again.

I had the feeling that the opponent stepped up its intensity for the playoffs and I could do nothing about it. My bunts for hits stopped working, my stolen bases all failed and I couldn't stop the other team's offense.

I have a habit of going up 3 games to 1 and then losing 3 in a row.

It could be worse (the luck factor). It could come down to just one game (like the NFL). At least series, I think, tend to mitigate the luck factor, which is one reason I like baseball.

Of course, you still have whiners in baseball (i.e. the better team didn't win), which I remember happened even after the world series sweep Reds vs. A's back in 1990. But it's harder to say that (with a straight face) than in one-game championships, like the NFL, at least.

At least you weren't up 3 to 0 and just three outs from sweeping the series before losing 4 to 3...

My suggestion is simple: change the championship series to best of five.

Do you have morale on? If so turn it off for the playoffs and see what happens. If your team is dominant then this may change your results. If you are not dominant or already play with morale off, then I can't say.

Really? I do have moral on but I'm kinda confused as to why this would affect my chances of winning a series.
I will try though next time.

Think Seattle Mariners of a couple years ago.

Just an observation I made in this version. For 10 of 11 seasons I had the dominant team and only won twice, with morale on. I turned morale off, just for the playoffs and won 3 straight. It was too easy so I decided to keep morale on during the playoffs again and... ...

At least this season I actually made it to the WS and lost in 7 to the second best team. That I can live with.

For those that played v6.5 this is how manager mode used to work. In that version I gave up and just used human control (no manager mode).

yeah, the playoffs really are hard. Especially on my pitchers. Guys who are great just crash and burn. Your Cy Young Winner will give up 6 runs to a crap team and of course your offense dies a quick death and you get eliminated by the WC team.

What is a "crap team" doing in the playoffs?

Seriously though, my team always starts faltering and suffering a bunch of injuries in September, right before the playoffs begin.

No matter how dominant your team is, if you look through you're team vs. team records, you'll find some teams in a given year that you're only about .500 against... or worse. In the playoffs, you're usually playing those teams that give you fits.

I don't think there's anything specially done in the playoffs to make it harder, it's a simple matter of you're playing against the best competition, and stuff happens. Just my opinion.
