Name The Team (Rapid City, SD)

The city seems to have a recent history of badly named teams. There could be an approach to name the ballclub after the Black Hills. Or the "Rushmores" or something related to Deadwood, even though it's not that close.

But I dunno, so I'm putting this one out there and seeing what sort of replies it yields.

Since the city is known as the Star of the West:

Rapid City Stars
Rapid City Western Stars

or perhaps named after the terrain:

Rapid City Hogbacks

.

Rapid City was settled by gold miners.

Rapid City Gold Miners

Rapid City Prospectors

Rapid City Rock Hounds (the area is great for geological enthusiasts)

Rapid City Wildfires (area very prone forest fires)

Rapid City Renegades (nothing to do with the city...I just like the alliteration and euphony)

From Wiki:

Sports

* The Black Hills Posse was a professional basketball club that competed in the International Basketball Association beginning in the 1995-1996 season.
* The Rapid City Thrillers was a professional basketball club that competed in the International Basketball Association beginning in the 1984-1985 season through the 1996-1997 season.
* The Black Hills Gold was a professional basketball club that competed in the International Basketball Association only during the 1999-2000 season.
* The Rushmore Thunder is a minor hockey team.
* The Rapid City Flying Aces is an indoor football team that competed between 2000 and 2006 in the Indoor Football League, United Indoor Football, and National Indoor Football League, changing names from season to season. The Flying Aces left the National Indoor Football League after the 2006 season, and will not field a team in 2007; the organization hopes to join the UIF in 2008.
* Rapid City's most successful sports team in past decades is neither a professional nor school team, but American Legion Post 22's baseball team.

Yeah, I always read the wikipedia entries. But this one wasn't as good in terms of choices. I'll come up with something.

Thanks Eugene.

Renegades is the one thing I was thinking of the most, because of all of the outlaws who once frequented the area. And I too enjoy alliteration and euphony in nicknames for teams.

I'm going to play with colours and come up with something.
