If they've got digital downloads of FM '08 available in Europe that'd be great. I gave up looking on there after asking about that and someone going off on one about it...

I'm generally ingorned or thrown the odd hamburger or "soccer" comment. Perhaps it's time to take USA out of my profile over there. No answers to my query yet I'll report back if I hear something.

Since facegen is independent of both SI and OOTP, I would imagine anyone could license facegen for their programs (and I'm sure many videogames do). Given the high sales of FM, I would epxect they have more than enough money to pay for facegen licenses.

Apparantly, Sega bought a Facegen license for its properties several years ago. SI did not know about this fact until Layton is My Homeboy pointed out to me some interesting information on the Facegen website, after which I asked Duffy about its significance. After that, Duffy handled the issue privately and next thing you know, Facegen was in OOTP.

Ooh.. Facegen is now available as a free version with save to .fg allowed... excellent that means we can mess around with faces in facegen and get them into the game (or will be able to when I code up some stuff)...
Will check later tonight whether the faces.dat will accept facegen files with saved textures... that could be interesting given the face fit feature... (I've not been playing with the nose settings... honest )

also - any idea if the create face from an existing picture works in the free one? what I want more than anything out of facegen is facegen pictures of real players so when you sign or trade for a player you get his face and your uniform. that would be the ultimate in facegen for me.

But will this work the way I want? for example lets say I scan in Albert Puljos and create his face gen face and save it as a .fg file. Then trade for him in the game - how do I get his face in the game to match his .fg file - or is that an impossibility at this point?

got it - thanks.
that would be amazing if you could pull that off. I love the facegen photos and spend a lot of time hitting "new face" just to get something that is remotely close to the real player.

I then wrote a program to import the .fg back into the relevant player and that worked. However it doesn't import a textured fg (well it does, but OOTP doesn't like it), if you use photofit you can't use texture maps (ie - the saved fg must be 300 bytes in size) I'll tidy it up in the next couple of days

OK. I've written a quick and dirty import of .fg files into the game and it works fine.
1. Download the editor from http://www.bourtonville.co.uk/OOTPEditor/publish.htm 2. Download FaceGen 3.2 Free from Singular Inversions (it gives some link to Tucows to download it) 3. If you want to import a facegen structure into an existing player you must make sure they already have a facegen picture in the game - if they don't choose New Picture from within the Player Profile screen. 4. Save and exit the OOTP game, and from within my editor choose the relevant league and on the Faces tab click Export All FGs 5. A directory called facegen_files will have been created in your league directory. Within that will be a selection of playerfg_playerid.fg files. These can be opened from within FaceGen and altered to your heart's content. 6. Save the edited facegen and overwrite the playerfg_playerid.fg file of the player you want to update (this is why they must already have a facegen picture) 7. Click on the Import FGs button and it will look at what players have a record in faces.dat and then look for the relevant fg file and update it. 8. When you are back in the game you'll need to click "Same Picture" to get the updated one to appear (the original pictures must be stored somewhere) Note. The file that you save from FaceGen must be 300 bytes - the game won't like full textured models, so if you PhotoFit make sure you turn off all the Facial Hair and Texture options. Here's a guy I modded in FaceGen and reimported... (he's been Leno-ised)

Thanks redsoxford, this is a lot of fun.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but the first face I created in Facegen looks totally different when imported into OOTP. |

The fg file is definitely only 300 bytes. I've just created a hideous thing and it came out ok in OOTP.

No, Facegen is a third party product which can be licensed by anybody. I would not be surprised if some other sport games licensed it sooner or later, probably we'll see Mogul-faces next year
