I'm going to get it anyway, but I'd kill for a history editor and an editable record book that tracked at least the same stuff that 6.5 did.

The original question was "What would get you to get OOTP9?" My answer: I'm going to get it no matter what comes out.

I'd like the see the draft cleaned up and the pitcher model fixed, like everyone else has said so far. I hated the interface at first but now I really prefer it to 6.5 - it's so much nicer once you get used to it.
Graphical hit tracking would be a nice touch as well for when I play games. A way to work the pitch location option on the broadcast screen would be nice too. |

The Interface
Complaints about the interface aren't necessarily just about how fast one can move around between screens. When I'm moving players around on the roster screens I can't see enough rosters at one time (major, AAA, AA, A, DL, 40-man.) Instead I'm limited to four. Being able to get used to that doesn't make it a smart arrangement. The stat presentations on this same screen don't line up which makes them take longer to absorb. When I'm setting my lineup against LHP and RHP I can't quickly see the major player stats. Sure, I can take time to go above and sort my guys by who had the most hits on Sunday against lefthanders wearing red shorts. That's a chore.
These are just a fraction of the areas I notice less ease of use in the newer versions of the game. The interface isn't a problem for OOTP'ers who are going to keep shelling out money, so this is a self-correcting problem I guess. |

Even though I'm used to the interface now, I must agree. It was waaaaaay easier to manage your rosters from the single screen in 6.5.

This says what I said much better I wasted so much time testing a league for a few months and finding out I broke something that I started to set up just real basic simple leagues. I was spending more time setting up leagues than I was creating them. Also feeder leagues had me so excited until I found out that they did more harm to a league than help them. The problem was that they dumped waaaay too much good talent into the league and within a few years your league was swamped with 5 star prospects. I wish that feeder leagues were more like real HS/College conferences in which only a handful of players were 5 star quality In essence drafts from feeder leagues should look exactly like drafts from AI created draft pools

So, the GUBA ran into the all star break last night, so I did a midseason FaceGen update.
10 day sim, boxscores included for the last 20 days, everything else checked except history (only done at the turn of the year). Including Facegen: League File: 114mb HTML Reports: SIX HUNDRED MEGABYTES! |

I don't get all this griping about file sizes (not just you, mikev). But GUBA's got like 36 major league teams with 5 levels of minors and box scores and game logs for every level, plus everyone has photos! What do you expect? You can't have all this stuff and expect it magically not to take up any room!
Granted, the league file update in the game could be more efficient if it actually did an update rather than sending the entire set of .dat files every time, but what, exactly, don't you want sent out to the web site that's now going (and that you didn't choose to send)?

It shouldnt take 20 minutes for an incremental download on Cable Modem, but it does (i'm speaking of GUBA, here, which could be a nice little model of what improvements we need to make in online play for 2009). Mikey's hit my major points on the head already, I'll be beating these issues to death this year.

I only want one thing, and its absolutely a deal-breaker for me.
Universal Binary for the Mac version. I don't care if OOTP9 is identical to OOTP8 in every other way... you slap a universal binary on that thing, I'll pre-order, I'll pay extra, anything. The speed difference for an Intel Mac user between the PPC apps running in Rosetta like OOTP8 and universal binary apps like Worldwide Soccer Manager 2008 is just enormous... |

If I'm understanding correctly, it's the same thing as on MLB.com's gamecast or whatever it's called. And I agree it would be a real nice feature to have.

I've updated the tally in my original post. So far, reworking the way pitchers are used is the favourite with reworking the interface to more like 6.5 is close behind. I realize the OOTP team is working on a large list of suggestions, but I'd have to say that if they got even just a handful of the ones in this thread the game would be so awesome it would be amazing. I'd vote for nearly every one of them, but I don't want to be greedy. Good work on the posts, guys!

I do play out several games. And while I love the features in OOTP, when it comes to playing a game, I prefer the graphics to its other competitor. Even the small amount of graphics the other competitor offers makes a game for me more interesting to play out.
The financials in OOTP would need to be imroved some too. I started a league in 1920 and had free agents (until I turned free agency off) demanding contracts for over a million dollars when Ruth was the highest paid around 60 grand or less IIRC. |
