Frustrating!

So even though I kept saying I was going to go ahead and get OOTP8, I never actually did, and I still have 2007. And I just got hit by a bug that I'm imagining must have been fixed in OOTP8, so I'm paying for it. It's an old bug that's rare, but I seem to recall (perhaps incorrectly) that it was fixed.

On the last play of the game, my pitcher was injured. Instead of going to the box score, it prompted me to replace the pitcher. But it wouldn't let me make a move. I was stuck. I had to ctrl+alt+del my way out of things. Thankfully I only lost about 2 days worth of games, since I'd just saved.

I don't know what I hope to get out of posting about it here except maybe to vent about being hit by such a dumbly simple but annoying bug.

I hate that bug. Hate hate hate. I'd been playing a solo league, writing up all the games as they happened. I went through about five games during one session, only to have the pitcher-injury bug hit. Lost all the games in that session, and it frustrated me so much I never went back to the league. You have my sympathy.

I honestly don't know if this has been fixed. Nutlaw would know best.

Perhaps a mod could move this thread to tech support.

I have a similar problem, but not quite the same.

I've had pitchers get injured on the final play of the game, but I looked down at the bottom of the screen and the LEAVE GAME button was there. So after trying (and failing) to substitute the pitcher so I could click onto the Box Score or Game Log, I saw that button, and pressed it. I was able to finish the game and everything was OK. I'm playing the latest patch of OOTP 2007 at full screen with a very large resolution - so I'm wondering if maybe that button was there but not visible on your screen if you were playing at a lower resolution maybe?!?!

The problem I have is if my pitcher gets injured in the middle of the game. About 95% of the time, if I try to sub for the injured pitcher, the game crashes to desktop. So I save my game before every game I play out. And my pitchers are almost invincible because I have to restart the game almost every time one of them gets injured.

The particular bug I'm running into apparently hasn't been fixed in OOTP 8 yet (I'm hoping it's fixed for 9), but the whole "Not being able to exit if your pitcher is injured on the last play" issue - I haven't had a problem with it - I've had it happen at least twice and I've always had the "LEAVE GAME" button available to me at the bottom left corner of the screen.

I'd considered putting this in tech support, actually, but at this point, I think tech support for OOTP2007 isn't going to get looked at much. So I figured I'd just put it where people might actually read it.

I looked all over for some way out, but I didn't see any. I do play on a low resolution, so that might be why.

Yep, I did this once also. I was thinking "oh, know it finally happened to me" and was about to go to task manager to kill the game. But then saw the Leave Game at the bottom of the screen and thought "what the hell, it's worth a try". Worked like a charm.

FWIW I've never had a crash when a pitcher was injured during the middle of a game and I've had quite a few

I've never had either crash, but in this last instance you mention there remained a problem with being able to assign a pinch runner without problems. Either the runner was credited with 0 IP in the pitching slot or you were unable to modify your lineup to accomodate the change. It bears looking into again in OOTP8.

From the post I responded to it isn't clear when the pitchers were injured. To tell you the truth it never even occured to me that the pitcher was injured while on the bases. I've never had a pitcher injured while running the bases and I manage in the NL. All of mine have happened while on the mound so I've never had the opportunity to see a problem if trying to PR for an injured pitcher.

Of course any crash should be looked at closely if the reporter is using the most current version of the game. Certainly not trying to say that if I haven't experienced a bug that it doesn't exist. Simply reporting it as something that always makes me wonder why some see it and others don't?

We're almost entirely current on Tech Support reports, and yes, the pitcher injury issue has not yet been fixed for any version of the game. Yes, it is unbelievably annoying. No, we haven't narrowed down exactly why it happens sometimes for some people and not others.

Really? I've run into this and IIRC there's a button on the screen you can click to end the game. I don't think it's where you'd expect it to be, but it's there.
