Am I screwed?

Hopefully someone has gone through something similar and can help ..

I did a brief search and didn't find anything exactly the same, so hopefully I can get some advice ...

I have a fictional OOTP league that is into its 27th season ...

Just about an hour ago I had somethin that never happened before, the game froze and I got the windows prompt telling me it had an error and had to close... Fine..

I restarted my computer and once again tried to load the league and it told me it could not open the league file, because the database was corrupt.

I'm assuming this was the result of the odd crash, but I can't be sure. I had just gone through an expansion in my league (added 2 new teams) and also had just imported a bunch of new logos and jerseys into my existing teams - It's not possible either of these could have contributed to this, is it?

So my big questions are ...

1) Are there any ways to 'uncorrupt' the database? Why could this have happened?

2) I did in fact do a backup before I expanded my league.. So I have the old .dat files and complete copy of the league file prior to my crash - Will having these files in any way help me restore the current game save at its current point? Ie. What will happen if I replace my "corrupted" dat files with the backed up ones?

Basically I know I can restore my league by just installin the backup I created, but that would be a huge pain as it would kill my expansion, draft, the tons of time I just put into giving all my teams great logos and jerseys and would kill a great 2022 season I was having...

I would be devastated to lose this league and I HOPE there is something I can do to restore it and make the game run at the current date ....

Please please help, even if you just have some thoughts/ideas or any suggestions ...

Well, I won't say you're screwed, but in all likelyhood....

Adding news logos and jersires wouldn't have caused the crash.

DB most likely can't be fixed. Not sure what will happen if you replace the corrupted files but at best you'd be back to whatever date the replacement files are at.

I know this doesn't do you any good now, but in the future, anytime you make changes to a league such as exppansion, adding new things like logos/jerseys, always always always do a backup just before and just after the changes. Backups can be a pain to do, but in the end, there's no such thing as backing up too often.

I use mac, I wonder if it will work.

I backed it up using the utility within the game, but it acted as though it wasn't complete. What does this mean?

Make a copy of your league folder and save it to another place on your HD, or a stick, or even burn it to CD.

I use a stick myself, very quick and painless.

Zip it, copy to a backup directory, burn it to CD, back it up somewhere online, buy a USB drive and back it up there. But whatever you need to do to be sure to back your leagues up, because if you don't, sure as Hell something like this will happen.

I just lost a league I was really enjoying. Was doing a full backup each season. When Vista did one of its patented crashes while the game was playing it corrupted the database. Then I found out that Vista's zip utility was producing corrupt zip files. Woo Hoo. (Is it true Bill Gates gave his mom a Vista PC for Christmas and she switched to Mac in early February?)

Use 7-Zip. Works great with Vista.

It may work using Parallels, but I dunno.

Ultimately, all that OOTPSave does is compress the league directory and then create an incrimental backup. There are plenty of other utilities available to do that, there's even a couple versions of 7-Zip available for OSX. Ultimately, writing a BASH script (essentially the Mac/Linux equivalent of a batch file) would be a fairly simple operation.

while all of these methods work, I am really hoping we will see a return of a full real in-game backup and restore.

Previous version (I think it was 6.x) had it and it worked perfectly - I used it to backup my seasons three times a year and even to move leagues to other computers. It was one of the things that got lost in the upgrade to the new game, and the existing in-game backup isn't really a very good option.

I had an instance in the past where my PC crashed and I had to reformat it. Luckily I had all my OOTP stuff saved on disk, although I lost some games and fights I'd run since the last backup. Even though it wasn't a huge loss it was not a nice experience. Now I'm sure to copy my OOTP and TBCB leagues aswell as other important files on my PC to a rewritable CD at least once a week.

Constant backing up is really the only way to go to avoid any problems.
