OOTP 9 quickstart

OK, this is not official (yet), but it's as close as possible to being such at 9 o'clock at night...

A decision has been made to build a quickstart from the ground up to show off the capabilities of the game. The intent is to create a league, complete with minors, uniforms, logos, and some history, so that a person can instantly jump into a fleshed out fictional universe.

I will be guiding this process and turning the result in to Battists for shipping with OOTP 9.

I hope to involve the modder community to develop custom uniforms for this project, so fair notice guys! There's work to be done!

Maybe the dynasty writing crowd can develop the backstory for the league with a paragraph or two, to sketch things out.

To start with...

What should the league be called?

I will collect names for two days or so, then have a poll of the community for selection. Next, we'll get some cities, and then team names.

Maybe by that point we could even post some screenshots of the new version in action.

What's wrong with the old Major American League?

Sure you could go with the Continental League, the All-American League, the United League, the Federal league, etc. but what's wrong with the good old Major American League?

I nominate a Tahitian League. If someone could photoshop stadium pics with awesome Tahitian beaches and sunsets in the background instead of Cleveland or Baltimore cityscapes that would be awesome. The minors should be based in Hawaii, Bali and Fiji.

If you do such a league, please make sure that it has everything: ballcaps, jerseys, logos, full minors, and individual ballparks.

There is nothing wrong with the MAL, except that it has a large number of teams, and that it would be difficult to ship it with 10 years of history behind it.

Well, I just asked the modders for ballcaps, logos, unis, the whole nine yards. I don't think we're going to do five levels of minors, perhaps three. It's a size thing.

Stadiums are tougher to come by, because there are not many who crank out fictional stadiums.

Good plan. Having a readily-available OOTP-branded fictional universe can only help customer satisfaction and sales.

No problem. Why don't you make a poll and see what name people want for the league? It reads like all the other issues are settled.

If you call it "Great American Baseball League" I already have a league logo with that name I'll glady donate. (I have a couple of other league logos kicking around that could be used, but I can't recall what league names they use at the moment. Some of them would be editable so that a different league name could be substituted.)

Also, I have about a dozen or so team logos I'd be happy to donate to the cause. Changing the city name on those to match up with whatever cities are selected for this Quickstart league would be no problem to do.
