Cause we have new people that haven't yet had the fun of going through this 8 times.

I don't mind the repeating of topics too much because there are always new people to the forum every year who might bring a different point to the discussion. Yeah, they generally stay the same, but sometimes my thoughts get swayed by what someone new has to say.

Well said. Anyone can have an occasional bad day, but it would be nice to see a little more consideration for other people in the OOTP community. There are some people who mainly post when they have something negative to say - about the game, or worse, about someone else's post.

As I read the posts daily, I notice negative comments often coming from the same core group of people. I have nothing against contesting an idea or opinion, but I would like to see a little more courtesy & consideration for other people in this community.

If you can't be civil & considerate about an issue, maybe you shouldn't post anything.

Another point is conditions change. For example, I don't think the anticipation for OOTP9 is nearly as great as it was for OOTP2006 and probably not for OOTP2007 either. Would that change people's answers? Would that change Markus's mind on when to release? Maybe.

Pointless thread. Markus made his point earlier today about completing the game before release. I beleive that Markus will make sure the game is non-buggy as possible before release.

Markus statement today was good enough for me. Be patient.

Yes, we have this poll every time. We already had a post or two demanding to know the release date since it's now May. Despite getting nowhere we'll have several more. It's the same thing every year.

I preordered 'cause I'll be a first time OOTP'er.
If it's released before my OOTP8 demo expires
If it's released before Memorial Day
If it's released before July 4th
If it's released before the all-star break
After the break
Labor Day
Playoffs
Football season
Thanksgiving
Next Year

Should have been a poll on whether topic is worthy of a poll.

I was so thinking of doing that, but then remembered I'm most likely on the fence of being banned and didn't want to peeve a mod any more than I must.

What would satisfy you more:

1 - Having OOTP9 come out sooner rather than later, even if it has some bugs. They can be dealt with in a patch.

2 - Not having OOTP9 come out until it has been very thoroughly tested and no bugs have been found.

Naturally, with number 2, I'm sure we'd find little ones here or there, but the difference would be that option 1 would basically be like a public beta.

I'm just curious about this, because I feel like every year there are some people who complain that the release date is too late and others who complain that there are too many bugs when the game is released. It seems to me that there is some sort of trade-off.

Every new release is buggy, so what's the difference?
More to the point; whom besides Marcus would KNOW the difference?

It's May. The season started a month ago. I'd say the game is already kind of late.

110 votes as of right now. Does that mean that people are starting to buzz through this forum again?

Wolf, how old are you? I played 'back in the nineties' and the games were buggy as well, i can assure you.

Plus, there was no internet so you were basically without help.

Like it's going to have no bugs. BWAHAHA! And Wolf is right. Late 90's software companies stopped giving a crap and realised they had this wonderful new dispatch model they can use to fix their crap so can ship utterly broken products and fix it later. Patches weren't really an option in days of yore. The rise of the net gave suits free reign to say "Ship it. We'll patch it later."

It also coincided with when games went from being about passion to just being another product and all that entails. (Lack of innovation, stale genres etc... They make such a huge deal about being bigger than Hollywood, and have lustily embraced all that's wrong with the movie industry.)

Honestly, were it not for indie developers, I'd have given up on gaming entirely. There's a few big names out there that still care, but mostly the likes of EA and the other big publishers don't give a damn about you, me, or anything but their shareholders and will gleefully release utterly broken products just to sucker the "must have" crowd out of their money before they realise it's a turd in a box.

Oddly enough, I agree. I'm sort of doing it to get it out of the way in some sort of hope that it functions as a lightning rod.
