When to switch to OOTP9?

Hi,

I just finished my season in OOTP 2007 - I finished 4 games out of first place, not so happy, but looking forward to the off season. I haven't started the playoffs yet, but I have a question before I go any further.

I preordered OOTP9. When during the (off)season will be the best time to switch to OOTP9? Now? After the playoffs? January 1st? Spring Training?

I started out with OOTP6 and I've always felt that (placebo or not) anytime I upgraded, my team changed direction a bit.

Thanks,
Alex

Not until after the play-offs but before spring training would be my bet. I think in the manual Battists recommends the off season.

I'm in the same boat. I just missed the playoffs by a single game (if Boston lost on the last day, it would've been a three-way 1st place tie between us, them, and Cleveland). I'm getting ready to start our World Series and am trying to figure out when the best time to switch to OOTP9 would be as well.

I'm deciding between two options:

1) Right after the awards are announced but before arbitration hearings.
2) After arbitration hearings and contract option decisions but before players file for Free Agency.

I'm leaning toward option two - do all my arbitration and on-team contract negotiation with OOTP8/2007 and start Free Agency fresh with OOTP9.

Has anyone else given this thought? Do the beta-testers have any recommendations on a good time to convert?

+1 - also would love an answer to this as I'm wrapping up my solo league.

Will my league blow up if I convert in the middle of the season? I play every game out and I just started a new season. I'd rather not have to start a new game or wait a couple months for me to play out my current season...

I would like to know as well.

If you do convert in the middle of the season, I would recommend backing up your league folder before converting. If something goes wrong you can restore your league and continue with your league until the current season is completed. At this time you should be able to convert your league to OOTP 9.

Again, as a safety precaution, I would backup your league folder before converting to version 9 when your season has been completed.

I think a backup is a must regardless of when you upgrade.

Immediately after the last game of the WS at the latest.

Right before the WS if you want the superior financial stuff to kick in for player negotiations with their club.

Past conversions (i.e. 6.5 to 2007) resulted in some lost data upon conversion. Will conversions from 2007/v8 to v9 suffer a similar fate?

Won't Opening Day still be the ideal conversion date?

If you had read the whole thread, Markus responded to a previous question that it is ok to convert in the middle of the season. I would then assume that if it worked in the middle of the season (the most volatile part of the year) then it would work at other times. I think people say that the best time is to convert during the offseason in order to take advantage of new features of the game, but the game won't break if you do otherwise.

Your response in BOLD is what we want to know... and I did read the whole thread - it's not like it's a huge thread and I was being lazy...

I didn't think to check the manual for this kind of thing, but you're right, it's in there:

Quote:
You can import a 2006 game file at any time during your game’s calendar year. However, we have
seen the best results, particularly regarding league financial data, when you convert on the day of
your last playoff game, before proceeding to the offseason. Importing in the middle of the season
could produce unpredictable results.
In my league, the playoffs are just about to start, but I'm out, so... I think I'll just hold off and convert as soon as I get OOTP9.
