I think there is a market for all the games, BM for the casual gamer who wants to quickly simulate a season, PureSim for the more ambitioned one, and OOTP for those who do not want to make any compromises.

I've just gotten into the OOTP community within the last couple of months and I have to say that the dedication and enthusiasm that Markus has is absolutely refreshing. He makes it plainly obvious that his #1 priority is putting out the best game possible and that to me is the reason I'll be a customer forever.Thank you Markus for such a wonderful game.

Game must be in good shape if he's sitting down to do interviews one day before release .

This answered a lingering question for me:

Quote:
OS: From your perspective, what benefits and what difficulties came with the joining with SI, and then the eventual breakup?
MH: The only difficulty was that Take2 purchased the exclusive MLB license, if that hadn’t happened then we’d still be at SI and selling the game in stores. We have learned so much since joining SI, and they were the most friendly and professional people I have ever worked with. Without them, OOTP would never be the game it is now!

I've never played Puresim, but why would it be considered better than OOTP for more ambitioned gamers?

I like what Markus wrote about online league. Email functions would be fantastic, I'm sure my owners would like it very much.

Oh, and ballpark construction kit? I say yeah!

I think his point was that Puresim would be considered better for more ambitioned gamers as compared to Baseball Mogul.

I think what he's saying here is that Puresim is a step up in complexity from Baseball Mogul, but OOTP is the full-on experience for the baseball sim fan who wants it all. I certainly wouldn't dispute that sentiment.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch!

Hear, hear! Hope this makes it into update #1; it'd be a fabulous addition to the game.

I submitted to digg, I highly encourage others to digg it as well. Might attract some new customers.

The SI question. They wondered why the SI split happened. It was in the interview.

Yup. I never got a clear "why" on the split. That's a much more clear answer than what I've seen previously.

somehow I read right past that.

nice to see such a clear answer, especially because I too thought the SI partnership was a good one. It really came down to the Sega deal, which I did worry about when it was announced.

two things I never like seeing in our little niche genre of sports games:

1. merger/partnerships with large entities like Sega. Larger companies have to be much more careful in what they do

2. exclusive deals like the MLB/2K or NFL/EA ones - lack of competition is never good for the end consumer.
