The inaugural draft isn't necessary from what I can see. Everything looks fine now as far as player ratings and salaries. You can follow Neags23's method, with or without the inaugural draft, and see how it goes. It looks like I'm the only one getting the CTD for some reason...
Got it, thanks!

I followed Neags23's technique and this worked perfectly for the major league level, but it seems whenever you fill minor league teams with fictional players it creates all 1 star guys with 1 star potential.

Any suggestions?

Never mind, I tried making a template of the MLB league and then loading that in a custom league with a inaugural draft and fictional players. Took like 20 minutes to load but it seems to have worked decently.

Would you mind explaining, step by step, excactly how you set up your league? My Major League players look normal but, now that you mention it, I am also seeing nothing but scrubs minor leaguers. Mostly 1 star and a few 1 1/2 stars at most. Anyone else seeing this?

One way to fix this one is to schedule an amateur draft as soon as possible. I don't remember the earliest you can schedule it... March 1st, maybe?

But since you're filling teams with fictional guys, anyway, you can schedule an ammy draft for March 1st with 50 rounds. Set the players created for draft to 100 or something so you have plenty of good players to fill the minors with.

If you still don't have enough good ones to your liking, just schedule another one immediately after that one.

This is what I did:
I created a quick 1 level league, did an inaugural draft, released all the players, deleted all free agents. So at this point, there are no players in the game.

Next, I did "Fill Teams With Fictional Players". All of those players had league minimum contracts. However, they weren't scrubs. There was a nice even distribution (with scouting off.... if they appear to be scrubs, make sure scouting is off). There are 5 star guys with really high batting ratings, 1 star guys with lousy ratings and everything in between. Same with pitchers.

Then, I did the "Assign Fictional Contracts" and everyone is making about what they should. The 5 star guys were making $10+ million, the scrubs league minimum.

I'll see if I can duplicate the issue with a fictional-real world setup league, but the assign fictional players creation engine should be the same.

I am having problems. i did the steps above, but my manage team the Dodgers has no fictional players after I fill teams with fictional players. All other teams has fictional players accept my team.

I try in commish mode and non commish mode. same problems

Sorry, the template method did not work. I thought it was creating a whole crop of new fictional players but apparently it only creates the same players as the league through which I made the template.

I also tried the amateur draft approach, however that creates almost no players that are ready for Triple A or Double A.

What I am hoping at this point is some modder creates a quickstart or template that works with the MLB setup and fictional players, since no other solution so far has seemed to work

BUMP! I have a clean install of 9.0.27 on my laptop. I did not have the initial release installed.

It looks like financials are now more screwed up than ever. After I fill all teams with fictionals and assign fictional player contracts, each team has maybe 5-7 players with a MLB contract and the rest have on a Minor League contract. The budget room for most teams is way out of whack. For instance, the Yankees only have 4 players with a MLB contract and a Proj. Budget room of over $98,000,000. Most teams are WAY under their budget room.

I have not yet filled the minor league rosters yet but I dunno if that should make a difference.

I started the game from the New 2008 Major League Game option.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, the patch has made things worse for those of us who play this way.

I had the same problem. Make sure you do NOT take control of any team when you start the game, otherwise the team you're controlling will have an empty roster. Set the game up first, then take control of the team you want after the rosters are full.

I do have a template like this --- In all honesty it is not very difficult to do -- Just create a new game, create a standard league, select MLB Setup and then change the nicknames for all of the teams (Major & Minor) and then save as a template.

The logos, jerseys and ball caps for the most part will transfer over (there will be a few that need to be assigned by hand) -- the only issue I had was that I had to copy the parks.dat over and reassign the parks to their respective teams for the major league teams.

I could probably post my template tonight (at work now), if someone wanted to point me in the direction of a decent free file host.

WARNING: My template is by no means the solution to world hunger, peace in the Middle East, etc. If you really want this type of template sooner I would follow the steps listed above.

So you named all minor league teams too? If you can find a host, I would be interested. It would be easier, since deleting real players and filling rosters with fictionals appears to be all screwed up as Mittal says.

Yes -- I named all of the minor league teams as well. I haven't memorized them all yet, but I could probably name 50% off of the top of my head and would do really well in a matching type of test, mostly due to the fact that I create a lot of different worlds that mimic MLB (e.g. 24 team league w/ real minor league affiliations, etc.) mostly due to the fact that I don't ever seem to have the time (plus a decent dose of laziness) to figure out how to make a fictional logo.

I had thought about doing this myself, but if you already did then please upload it somewhere (maybe PadresFan will do it?). I am at work too, so tonight would be fine with me. Thanks!

Upon further review, it looks like players' salaries are screwed up for any type of league with fictional players. I started a custom MAL game and it looks like most teams have more than half their roster making the league minimum.

From what I can see, the only way to start a game with realistic players' salaries are with real rosters. Starting a league with fictional players and an MLB template still may not give us what we want.

Financials look completely screwed up. How many REAL MLB players are making the league minimum this year??

I'll take a look at this, but I think you'd be surprised how many player currently make the minimum --- just a quick look at the Braves this year showed 17 guys making the minimum or close to it (i.e. Francouer is making $460,000 which is just a couple of minimum raises over $390,000) and 13 guys making more than the minimum. Even a more veteran team like the Cubs has 10 guys making less than $450k.

Link to template file

OK, I have a MLB Fictional Template created (click the link below)

What this should do:

Allow you to set up a fictional league exactly the same as MLB is currently setup (w/ a couple of exceptions -- see below).

This will include correct logos, ballcaps, jerseys for all teams (Major and Minor) and park information for MLB teams (borrowed from the MLB All-in-One Installer -- Thanks for the hard work).

Just add this file to your world templates folder and then Create a New Game>Create World from Template>Select the template>Start Game>Enjoy!!!

A couple of things -- The team names match the names of the logo files provided in the MLB All-In-One Installer (Kudos to all of the logo, uniform, ballcap makers---simply awesome, the game wouldn't be the same without these) in order to make life a bit simpler (i.e. you don't have to go searching for logos).

No AZL Padres --- The Template does not load correctly w/ the 9 team Arizona League -- You can add them after the template loads, but I couldn't get them in the template (If anyone knows a better workaround let me know.)

I know at least one team which is "wrong" -- Quad Cities Swing -- They are now the River Bandits (they also used to be the River Bandits, but that it neither here nor there) -- but in order to tie to the logo I named them the Swing. If you don't want to chase down the logo and change the name, just pretend its 2007 again!!!

Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be changed.
