Historic parks and park factors

The park factors imported from the database are kind of wonky. After searching around the forums the only thing I've found are the stadium generator and conversion tools, is there any compiled DB's of historic parks with more accurate factors?
thanks in advance.

Within the game, if you go to add on central and download all in one, you'll have current historic stadiums and the ballflight already set. Padrefans mod web site has more, if I understand what you're asking

I'll check that out but I'm not worried about ball flight, but want to make sure none of the parks have .595 HR modifiers or 1.695

Karadur, I personally calculated all of the park factors for OOTP9 using Retrosheet data. Each year's park factors is based on 5 seasons worth o data, with the focus season given half the weight in the calculation - this is what Bill James suggests in Win Shares. Please post which park factors you think are "wonky".

Garlon - Sorry to jump in here, but I just took a look at the era_ballparks.txt file and am extremely impressed with your efforts - what incredible detail for all the ballparks throughout history. Just wanted to say thanks!

So, for historical leagues the game will automatically adjust for each year based on where each team played in real life. So for example when the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA that will be accurate?

1962
Connie Mack Stadium
334-362-390-447-393-361-329 (distances left to right)
.998 AVG(LH + RH) 1.127 Doubles 1.387 Triples
.917 HRs (LHB and RHB). No effect from the 50ft-50ft-32ft wall in Center-RF/rfline?

Dodger Stadium
.539 HR (LHB and RHB) Really that low?

Shea Stadium
1.676 HR (LHB and RHB) really that high?

How were these factors determined, because it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the size of the park/walls which should be the major determinations for ballpark factors.

For the team's first four seasons in Los Angeles Dodgers, the Dodgers played all their home games in the Coliseum. Check out the Coliseum's left field:

Construction on Dodger Stadium was completed in time for Opening Day 1962.

1962 was the first season in Dodger stadium. I use 5 seasons worth of data to calculate the park factors. The previous 2 seasons, the next 2 seasons, ad the focus season which is counted 4x. In this case there are no "previous 2 seasons" since the park just opened. So 1962 is counted 4x in the calculation, plus 1963 and 1964 data. The data takes into account everything that happens in dodger stadium vs everything that happened in dodger road games, for both them and their opponents.

For Dodger Stadium that's:
AB: 33651
HR: 493
HR/AB: .01465

For Dodger road games that's:
AB: 33663
HR: 915
HR/AB: .02718

So now we just compare the HR per AB of Dodger Stadium vs the HR per AB of the road games. We get:

.01465/.02718 = .5389, which rounds to .539

For doubles and triples we don't use per AB, we use per non-HR Hit. 2B/(H-HR).

We don't have split data, so the factors generated are applied to both LHB and RHB.

The size of the park and walls are not used in creating the park factors. The real data of what actually happened over the course of 5 seasons is what matters. Remember, park factors are relative to the other parks in the league, they are not absolute. Wrigley Field hasn't really changed since 1938, but in the 1970's it was a much more HR-friendly park compared to the rest of the NL than it is today because now we have Coors Field, Minute Maid, and other even more HR-friendly parks in the NL than Wrigley.

Since we are comparing home vs road data it makes no difference how many total HRs your team hits and allows or your opponents because you are playing with and against the same teams when you go on the road as well. So we end up looking at the rate at which HRs occur at home compared to the road. We use 5 seasons worth of data, with the focus weighted at double. After 1962 when both leagues began using 162-game schedules that comes out to looking at a sample of 648 games at home and 648 road games each season to generate the park factors. This eliminates alot of random noise that could crop up if you were only looking at 81 games at home vs road.

when are these factors imported each year. I imported my file from OOTP8 and all the factors were teh same for each park. For example, Wrigley was .970 for everything. Fenway was 1.020 for everything etc. had to enter them all in from the stadium mod spreadsheet. Hpping this will adjust automatically next year.

Can anyone tell me when and if this happens?

OOTP 8 didn't have this feature,it's new for 9.And yes from what I understand the ballpark factors will change to the appropriate #'s in your next season.BTW I was in the same boat as you and what I did was start a new league in the same year that I was in and simply wrote the factors down for each park and then went back and implemented them into my game. After I was done I simply deleted the league

I was looking for something like the pack on Padresfans site.

All old ballparks like Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium photos AND a park.dat that includes the ball animations and all measures and numbers.

Anyone ????
