The Fastest Way to Sim Multiple Seasons?

So what helps the sim speed? I'm averaging about 20 mins per season simmed. Here's what I've turned off:

FaceGen
Almanac Generating.

Changed stats detail to normal.
Turn on delete fictional players who've retired but never made the majors.

Any other suggestions?

I'm just simming the ABA quickstart by the way.

Turn off the box scores, game logs, message logs and replays.

Wow, I'm glad I have a good computer. I simmed 20 seasons last night and it probably took 15-20 minutes.

No way! I have a Sony VAIO laptop that was top of the line about 9 months ago.

Under game preferences, set "Auto-play Display" to "Simple dialog".

There will be a noticeable increase in simming speed.

Running in windowed mode drastically increases my sim speed. Anytime I'm just data farming or testing things over night I always switch to windowed mode.

I also run in windowed mode. My PC is a quad core Q6600, 4 GIG ram, Win XP if it helps to compare to what your running. I believe I have boxscores and replays turned off.

Turn off auto save, or at least change it to every year. Saving really slows down multi year sims.

Thanks guys! These tips really helped. They should make a lightspeed mode which turns off all these things with the press of just one button instead of having to hunt for them all in different places. Or at least have an extra section where they all are.

Im guessing you have a small league. If you can sim 20 seasons with a 2X28 major leagues with 4 levels of minors with 2 feeder leagues and 4 inti leagues, please let me know.

What's the rush? After you are done simming thru 100 seasons or so you will just be on here asking when the next version will be out so you can sim 100 seasons again.

Is there a way to turn off auto-save completely? To the best of my knowledge, the most you can do is switch it to saving on the 1st of every year.

I believe there is a "never" option.

Markus will probably say no, but altering the auto-save frequency byte in world.dat from 1 to 0 changes auto-save from yearly to never - I just tested it and the only thing that happened on 01-01-2009 is that OSA did some rescouting

A hex editor is the best way of doing this.

[disclaimer]
take a copy of your world.dat before doing this - I accept no responsibility for any damage caused to your game or health by following the upcoming instructions.
[/disclaimer]

1) Note down in the following order AI weightings for Current Year, Last Year, Two Years Ago and Ratings, and then exit OOTP
2) Using your hex editor, open world.dat and in the search window find four bytes in a row with the values from 1) in the order given
3) I'm guessing that you're in a solo league so taking a look at the byte layout from the file you should see something like

a b 0 0 0 0 c d e f g h i j CY LY 2YA R

where CY = Current Year AI Weight
LY = Last Year AI Weight
2YA = 2 Years Ago AI Weight
R = Ratings

you can ignore bytes c through j and the four bytes before c should be 0 (if they're not you're either on a different version of OOTP or doing this to an online league)

as a backup check

b = Maintain Hidden Players (1=Yes, 0=No)
c = Personality System (1=Yes, 0=No)
d = Delete Players who never made it to majors (1=Yes, 0=No)

If those don't match, you might be in the wrong place in the file.

If auto-save is currently set to yearly, byte a should be equal to 1 - changing it to 0 will turn off auto-save.

I haven't gone back into global setup after making this change so don't know if that will crash the game but you shouldn't need to go back into there after initial setup anyway.

When I run test simulations then I turn off trading, this speeds the sim up as well.

Normally I'm pretty good with figuring these things out; however here I'm embarrassed to admit I'm stumped. Tony, if I have Current / Previous / 2 Years / Ratings Weights set to 40 / 15 / 5 / 40, what's the string I should be searching for? And should I be searching in hex bytes or an ASCII string?

If your hex editor gives you the choice of either ascii or hex, I'd convert them to hex and look for 28 0F 05 28. If it gives you the choice of decimal then use that (less error prone)
