pre-season & spring

does anyone know if there's anything we can do during the pre-season or spring training to improve our players' performances or ratings? always just sim through it all, but my ratings don't ever improve. Am i missing a feature?

This is one of the last remaining areas of OOTP where I still prefer 6.5. It seems illogical to me to be able to have coaches, but not give them assignments during spring training to work on individual players or small groups of players, in specific aspects of their games. Maybe in OOTP10.
