1-Star Superstar
This is why this game is so great. I drafted Brendon Bell in the 8th Round, 96th overall and this guy has been nothing but consistently great is whole career. Aside from his 2 part-time years in 1941 & 42, you can't ask for anything more from this guy. Those 2 years, I was stacked with OF's that were hitting the lights out, so he platooned. Bell has been my leadoff hitter the last few years taking over because of an injury to 2 other players whose ratings never recovered and neither did the BA's. Best of all, his contract has him making $710k for the next 3 years, talk about a bargain!

This is kind of a bug in the way players are created. These players have high contact but low ratings everywhere else. This guy doesn't walk and strikesout way too much(20% of the time is high). Doesn't hit for much power. BUT - I try to find these guys to bat 2nd or 8th, 9th depending on my team....

My gracious those are some ugly jerseys!
What are his ratings? I had a player like that in my 45-year-old fictional league. He still is the all-time leader in hits, and constantly overachieved (had a 7 in contact but was constantly amongst the top of the league in hits) ... He had no power whatsoever and struck out a bunch .. Again I might agree with the first reply, I'm trying to think of a really good contact hitter who gets on base a lot but also strikes out a lot in history and .. I can't think of any, or any justification of why this player would be like this.. It's not like he's swinging for the fences with that lack of power! |

LOL...the jersey colors match the logo, which is a beachball. I'll have to turn on te ratings to see what they are.

I have a Jesus Negrete in my system in the universe I started last night (2008 ML), but he's a middle reliever.

What's interesting about this guy is that you've been getting production out of him, but I would rarely if ever have a guy like that on my team. I don't ever rely on guys who lack essential walk ability, as even when a guy is struggling to get hits, if he can get walks he can still provide a great deal of value to my team.

In looking at his stats, he obviously isn't a great OBP man for a leadoff guy. He kinda fell into leadoff from injuries and hit with such a high average with above average speed that I decided to keep him there. The guy is a singles machine.

So, here is my experience with these types of players. I had a 5 year fictional league and I decided to add feeder leagues. The next year after the draft my records were tainted with an 18 yr old who led the league in hits and had a .399 avg and another who had the all time hitting streak at 43 games.
This tipped me off so I went through and found about 15 of these players. Those that affected my records book I deleted, the others I just lowered their contact ratings significantly. Those that I deleted eventually did have their records go away except in the "Accomplishments" section where they still appear. This seriously could ruin a league if not caught and I deleted the feeder leagues and no longer will use them. The league is now in year 10 and I have not seen this issue except with feeder league players. At 22, this guy Brendon Bell had a .347 avg and 232 hits. That would drive me crazy, I could pass it off as the rare once in a lifetime player but my suspicion is that your league will have more of these guys. Apparently there was a BZ created in April of this year for this issue, but I can find it or any information on its disposal. Is it still an open ticket? It appears to still be an open issue!

It is still an issue. I asked when V 9 came out if the issue was resolved and never got an answer. Then from my feeder league fiasco described above I know that it was never resolved.

It seems that the BABIP of these guys is just too high on a consistent basis. IRL, if you strike out 100+ times a year and have no power, you aren't going to consistently hit well above .300. No one is that lucky or that skilled at placing the ball over the infielders' heads.
