Ghost managers
I play in an online league (Sparkey League, great league, we do have a couple teams open...OK, there's my plug) with scouts and managers disabled.
My question is the about the minor league managers. A couple of teams, when you go to the action button to have the AI make out the depth chart or the lineup you can get the option of just the bench coach doing those tasks, but with my team, you get the option of having the bench coach or MANAGER make those decisions. This would not be a big deal except that in my league I have had an incredible amount of players go from being top prospects when I acquired them to going in the tank while some teams have great luck developing players. For example, I did a deal with the Twins, they do a great job developing players and I made a deal to send Chad Billingsley (arguably the best pitcher in our league) and Morgan Ensberg (a throw in) from teh Dodgers to the Twins for 6 players, two who went to the bigs (Alexie Casilla and Thomas Wright) three who went to the minors and one who shuttled back and forth. Of the six players, the ones in the majors are doing great, of theree who went to the minors, two have gone from 4 star to 1 star and 3 star to 1 star potential, the player who shuttled back and forth was a five star prospect who kept those five stars while in the bigs but did not play very well or very much and was sent to AAA where he promptly droppped to 1 star. This is far from the first time this has happened and in the six year history of the league i have had by my count 16 players drop from 3 star potential or greater to one while I have had one or two increase and stay that way. I have had 3 players go from zero to hero in the potential department while in the low minors, but none have kept that status more than a season and drop back down to 1 star usually in less than a year. the one exception has been Clayton Kershaw who was a 4 1/2 star propsect at 21, was optioned down to AAA in 2008 while still a 4 1/2 star player (bad stats) and then dropped to one star. In 2011, latew in the season, he started to get back to 3 stars, was poromoted and is now 3 1/2 stars and doing well. the Twins owner believes this has something to do with the managers. I have the option of having the manager make out depth charts and lineups or the bench coach (either choice gives you the same lineups, depth charts or pitching staffs) while the Twins have only the choice of bench coach. Is it possible that i have a ghost manager? And a ghost manager who sucks at that?
