Could this game ever do this and would anybody want it to?
I love to play fictional. I also play solo. I wonder if there is a way for the game to deal with the failing franchise? Say a team is constantly in the red, losing nonstop, no money to sign good players and no longer drawing any fans to their games. In real life, this often leads to a team moving to greener pastures. I wonder if there is a way that the OOTP AI could deal with this. I think it would enrich the history and realism of fictional leagues.
Now, I understand this feature would have to be something you could choose to use. It would ruin leagues otherwise, think of Eugene's league. But, what if while creating a league, you could make a list of the places that your leagues teams could move to? This would allow the geographic regions of your league to remain feasible. I love to watch a league develop and learn its history. I don't like to meddle in it. I love the fact that the game has expansion features, but I would love it even more if things happened without my intiation. |

I'm afraid you'll have to get involved to see this happen, as I doubt the AI can be made sophisticated enough to accomplish this.
If you are hand off, a team always in the red will suffer -- by not signing players and fielding bad teams -- but unless you intervene (or the situation changes), they'll go on like that forever -- no bankruptcy here! |

I did, however, make a suggestion in the Suggestion forum that would allow for the occurrence of various league-level events to be determined by the AI: Dynamic League AI.

"Fictional historical play." What exactly do I mean by that? I don't mean replicating the history of the MLB, that's for sure. I guess I mean a game like my current one; loosely based on MLB to start (in 2001), then allowed to develop and change like any real professional league would over time, without me having to artificially manage it. For example, my Arizona Diamondback franchise is always in the red. I would not mind the game moving that team to another location with greener baseball pastures, then seeing that team thrive. That's what should happen in a realistic fictional historical simulation, and if it did make a team more successful against my Yankees, would make for a greater challenge.
