calculating minor league/feeder teams needed

Hello all

I'm trying to figure out how many teams in the minor leagues and feeder leagues would be needed for a 92 team league. It would be only one level of minors if that helps.

Also if a feeder league is added, will it be the only source of players in the league or coudl their be outside players added to the draft randomly?

The link to the manual below should help you.

Once you create the feeder leagues, you will find an option in the Rules page where you set # of draft rounds, to either draft players from only the feeder leagues, or mix feeder league players with "non-feeder league players".

From my experience, draft with ONLY the feeder league players leads to a relatively minor issue.

I remember somebody mentioned the work around somewhere, but I do not remember where I saw it...

OOTP Baseball Manual - Adding Minor Leagues

From the manual

For example, let's say you have a 16-team major league, and a 5-round (note! = 1 minor league teams. If you have 3 minors, it becomes 15-rounds) first-year player draft. You need 16 x 5, or 80 players in your first-year player draft each year. We divide 80 by 6 and round up, getting 14. If you have 14 feeder league teams, you should get enough players from your feeder leagues to populate your first-year player draft entirely with feeder league players.

So 92x5 = 460 / 6 = 77

Sounds good although a lot less feeder teams than I figured Id' need.

One thing though, where did the bolded six come from in the equation?

It is actually 6.25.
25 (# of roster of your feeder leauge teams) devided by 4 (# of years/grades each college/HS teams have, if you know what I mean) =6.25. In other words each feeder league team generates 4 players/year for the draft every year.

So, you have to remember to set the # of roster for all the feeder leagues you have to 25, and then set the age min/max to 18/21 (can be 19/22), or 15/18 (4 years in anyways) when you set up your game.

Also, see thomamon's post here.

I think setting up the appropriate # of feeder league teams is very tricky.
I test simmed my league with the feeder leagues, changing the # of teams several times, and could not come up with the result I like.
If you over increase the # of teams, the league will be filled with talented players in years, and if you decrease it a bit, the opposite happens.

I suggest you test sim with various settings before you get what you want. Somebody (I think it was 1998 Yankees) said he set the # of feeder league teams fewer than the parent league needs, and mix the "feeder league players + non-feeder league players at the draft, and got pretty good result. (He might have said something different, but I could not find his post)
