playoffs with a bye?

is it possible to customize playoffs to allow for a bye for the division winners like football ?

say I have a league with 16 teams, 2 leagues and I want the top 3 from each league to make the playoffs and the top team in each league to get a bye.

The 2nd best and 3rd best play in a wildcard round and then face off against the top team in each league then the winner plays for the championship?

The customize screen says the number of teams has to be power of 2 which says I cannot do what i want (so much for customizing).

any way around this?

Sorry, but byes in the playoffs are not supported at this time. There is no workaround that I'm aware of.

Byes really need to be added. Your playoff proposal is essentially neutered without them.

I also support adding playoff byes for the next version of OOTP. I can't tell you how badly I want to do a league similar to the format of the NFL. (2 conferences, 4 divisions of 4 teams each, division winners + 2 wild cards in playoffs, top two seeds get byes.)

yep, homefield advantage is not enough, make winning the division/league worth something

The problem was, as I understood it, was that byes were a pain for Markus to code, so there wasn't time for them to be a part of OOTP 9. As to this year's version, I don't know what the plan is...

In addition to being a pain, I THINK I remember Markus saying that earning a bye would not neccessarily be a good thing, since if the team took a week off it would get a little rusty.

Yes, I know that twice in recent years real MLB teams have had a week or so off between the LCS and the World Series. That aside, the fact that you have no chance of losing in the first round would be more than enough for me to accept the risk.

On a related note, I'm hoping that more than just byes get added to the playoff system for version 10 (although I would also like those). My big thing is flexible brackets, so the teams can be re-seeded between rounds.

OP would do well to see if it's been suggested.
