RonCo and other Stats Experts: Need Help in Lowering Strikeouts in League Modifiers

RonCo and other stats geniuses:

I have too many strikeouts in my league.

I use the League Modifiers to adjust and tweak the League stats.

If I lower strikeouts by 10%, do I also need to adjust other league modifiers like hits, doubles, triples, home runs, etc.

If so, by how much?

Or do you only have to lower the strikeout ratio?

Thanks for your help.

You should only have to lower the strikeout modifier.

If you lower it a whole lot, you might see a small rise in batting average. But it shouldn't be much unless you move strikeouts way down.

I lowered the league modifier for strikeouts and got some good results in test leagues.

It worked well.

Question

Eugene, I hope you don't mind me piggybacking on your thread, but I have nearly the same question and am wondering whether the answer is also the same.

Would the same be true if I was to increase doubles modifier by 30% and triples by 100%?

Yes, the League Modifiers are the best way to control the stats. I never use the League Totals. Several very astute gamers recommended this several versions ago.

I use the League Modifiers to adjust all the stats and it works very well. You raise it from 1.000 to 1.100 and you get a 10% increase. Lowering the number lowers the stats in that category.

I run several test leagues before I begin play and use the League Modifiers to tweak everything... hits, doubles, walks, strikeouts, double plays, errors, etc.

I also adjust them between seasons, too.

This is one thing in the game that works well.

Good luck on your campaign for a "mass delete" button. We really need it. Did you post it in Markus' "flaws" thread?

I believe changing the doubles modifier will make more singles doubles. If the results engine works as I think it does, you could also see a small rise in triples...though there are so few of those that the statistical studies are hard to interpret with total confidence.

That's good to know.

I'll try to keep some casual records on the effects of changes.

That turned into one of those silly things. I posted it down in the Suggestions forum, but didn't think it met Markus' criteria for his Fundamental Flaws thread. Then Malleus Dei posted it in Markus' thread, and I was stupid enough to tell him that I thought he was off topic. You can imagine how that went. Anyway, we straightened it out in PMs, and I got a history lesson about a player who started campaigning for this back in Version 1. Didn't increase my confidence level, I've gotta tell you.

And thank you for your support..

Good, that's what I was hoping — but didn't expect the bit about a simultaneous rise in triples. I'll have to keep an eye on that. Thank you for the response.
