"Shop Around" redicoulousness
Why is this game so eager to give away great players for crap? I tried shopping around Brandon Hicks 1 star overall 2 potential and Brain Roberts a 4 1/2 star was offered. I also got Jacoby Ellesbury for an aging Chipper Jones. I could give away all my minor leauge crap for legit major leaguers. Any one else come across this?

First off I would guess you have scouts turned on because I can't see how Brian Roberts is a 4 1/2 out of 5. That is territory for the A-Rod, Jeters, Ramirez and Pujols crowd. I would think Roberts would more likely be a solid 3 star player. The AI might suspect that his ratings are dropping so it is trying to dump a declining big salary player.
Trade settings can have a lot to do with it also. Try setting it to "favor prospects" and maybe even "hard" instead of "normal". This should help with the Ellsbury for Jones problem. Although that might not be as much a problem as you think depending on the needs of the other team. Ellsbury is by no means a sure fire star in fact people in Boston are wondering if he can learn to hit the inside pitch or not and how he will be defensivly playing every day now that Crisp is gone. Lastly I'm sure someone will tell you that the game does not know names only ratings so be sure you are looking at the players objectivly which means not just looking at contact and power but also defense, contract etc. Last edited by DCG12; 02-02-2009 at 05:49 PM. |

I know when I have put the trade pref. to favor prospects, I can almost never get rid of my older guys. I usually have to trade prospects with them so the other team would take them.

Playing at hard is a must, but I leave it at neutral because then it's too easy to send off B-C type prospects for good, starting major league talent. I may move to very hard soon though, I still think the trading AI is too easy.

It's possible, but substantially more difficult. I managed to offload a 35-year old pitcher making $12 million for a major league ready prospect last week. For those on the decline, though, you'll usually need to eat a lot of the contract or toss in some prospects.

I agree, there needs to be a setting between normal (WAY too easy) and the next level (is it hard? whatever it is, it's ridiculous to have to move players)
