Problem with AI after draft
I have my minors coaches in charge of releasing and signing minors players, but after a draft, they seem to release players with high upside(4-5 star potential) while trying to make room for new draftees. I am playing with scouts, but still can't figure why this happens after each draft. I can't figure out the minor league AI in this game. It really isn't good. I then go to sign them again to minor league deals from the free agent pool, and it's no problem. Not one AI team even attempted to sign these players. This just shows some real fundamental issues with the AI. Every year we keep hearing how these are going to be fixed, but these are holdover problems from generations ago.

The problem might be with your scouts. The reason why nobody wants those players might be because your scouts aren't any good at scouting minor leaguers.
I once did a test league in which I turned scouting on. In the draft, I couldn't believe how, in every single round, I was getting players with 78-80 potential (I use the 20-80 scale). I thought there was something wrong with the way the game was generating the talent pool. But, then I turned off the scouting, saw that all of those players were in fact nothings, so I concluded that my scouts sucked. So, maybe that could be the cause of your problem. |

That would be pretty interesting if it just was that the quality of your scouts were terrible, and your minor league manager saw this and released the players.
It may not be a flaw at all. |

I've seen this and signed all of these "good" released players... 100% of them so far (at least 40 players total) have turned into complete rubbish. Its still worth a shot IMO, but generally the other scout just knows about a huge ratings decline before yours does i think.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I've gotten more than a couple great players off the draft and release scrap heap, including the first and only player to ever hit .400 in my league. But still, more often than not these players do stink, but whats the harm in taking a chance on some of the guys?

I have better luck not giving the AI any control at all. I can go to roster then lineups and click on the action menu and have the AI set my depth charts, but that is a one time deal for each team. After doing that I rearrange the depth charts and don't let the AI touch anything for the rest of the year. This way I can develope players at the positions I want them and determine how much play time they get.
This is a very long and complicated process but I only do it at the beginning of spring training and then a few tweaks through the entire year. |
