Popularity Bug?

Not sure if this has come up before .......

Playing version 9 with the latest patch. On my Finances-Advanced Info screen, one of the pitchers is shown as the most popular player on my fictional team. This player just finished serving a 10-game suspension for failing a drug test. When checking his Profile, both his national and local popularity show as "disliked". I can't figure out if he's the most popular or LEAST popular player on my team!

I'm not sure if this was a design decision, but it is like this in my game as well.

Not yet. Wanted to run it out here first and see if anyone had an explanation that would show it wasn't a a bug. I'll give it overnight and then post in tech if no one thinks to the contrary. I'm wondering if this is some sort of "reverse rollover" where the guy's popularity has sunk so low that it's now a positive number!

It could also potentially be that the game assigns a tag to a player for testing positive and then just gives that player a displayed "Disliked" for this, since I've never seen a player go below "Unknown" without testing positive. So given this setup, your previously popular player may still be "popular" in the variable that decides what a player's popularity is for everyone that hasn't tested positive, and the game might just look at this variable to make the list of most popular players, without consulting the tag for testing positive. Just a thought.

Sounds logical. Still, whatever the cause, it's quite a contradiction to have a player listed as the most popular on the team and disliked at the same time. Hardly a game breaker, but likely something that could use an adjustment. That drug test fallout should be taken into account when determining popularity. I'll probably post this in tech in the morning.

Oh I definitely agree it should be adjusted. I'd also hope that the hit is more than the cosmetic adjustment that I guessed it might be since a team could conceivably gain fan interest if they signed such a player as what I was saying, which shouldn't happen. My previous post was merely to lay out a logic of how the game might be handling the situation.

Yup, no problem. I knew you weren't condoning the situation, just trying to explain it. The oddity is that the player in question on my squad went from failing his drug test to be the #1 most popular player on the team. He had just come up from the minors at the end of the preceeding season (do minor league players ever fail drug tests in OOTP?), pitched ok in a few outings, failed the drug test during the off-season and voopa! he was now the most popular player on the squad despite also being the only "disliked" player on the team. Can't be right. A bug report went in this morning.
