Boy this sucks for them

Starting spring 2007 in my UABL solo league and browsing the news I saw the first story listed which is a career ending injury for dutch outfielder Stan Sutkamp on the Portland Timberwolves. The worse part is the article right below it announcing his 4-year, $40MM+ deal less than one month earlier. Ouch. There are some pretty disaterous deals that fail due to injury, but this is really the first I've seen like this in OOTP.

wouldn't the team only have to pay his salary for the year if a player is released retires/career ending injury in OOTP which differs from real life obviously cause it would be guaranteed for all four years? probably would have been worse if he would have come back and been a horrible player etc. I just always edit out any career ending injury that I come across in my league pretty much and keep them out for 500 days unless the player is already old. With today's modern medicine career ending injuries are pretty much a thing of the past. Granted it's your league/time period so to each their own.

I've honestly been doing a lot of the same myself. I usually convert career ending injuries into season ending injuries and let the engine decide their fate after that (poor performer or miracle comeback). I mostly was just shocked to see what was supposed to be a beacon of hope for this teams season lost in less than four weeks. Carl Pavano anyone?

yea i think the overall issue just relates back to the game itself in the fact that when looking at injuries as a whole there are way too many long term ones. The vast majority of baseball injuries usually end up with a player being out 2-8 weeks etc, not months/seasoning ending at a time which the game seems to have a tendency to do. I would like to think more short term injuries occurring more regularly with less long term ones will be what the future has to offer.

I know that is a hot topic for OOTP X dev. I've read Markus confirm though that there were somethign like 1300 injuries last season and the game engine is matching that number accurately. Whether they're on the longer or shorter term we'll have to see.

i wonder what poor stan did to get a career ending injury with a fractured skull playing right field ? most right fielders dont move fast enough to get a headache, much less a fractured skull. maybe he was trying to catch a foul ball and some fan whacked him with a baseball bat for signing such a huge contract !

True, he was a bit of a bloated signing, but for a pretty offensive starved team.

Yeah, unless a guy actually DID suffer a career ending injury in real life (think Dravekey), I change career enders to 365 day injuries.

One of my teams, the Kentucky Stallions, had a similar problem this spring - signed Lance Berkman to a multi-year, big dollar deal and he suffered a career ender. They also lost their starting SS for 6 months and Roger Clemens for 3 months. Rough spring!
