1897
I tried to create the NL of 1897 (one of the best pennant races ever) but wasn't able to because the wizard created two sub-leagues, one of which was empty and then complained that the structure wasn't right. Anyone know a work-around? Is it possible to simply import a historic *team* into a league (like if you wanted to have a league of all-time great teams)?

Don't use the wizard, create the league from scratch with the advanced mode.

Using the standard creation doesn't help either. It still tries to create a national league with zero divisions (it also says I will need to an inaugural draft, which sort of defeats the purpose of replaying the 1897 season).

As for the inaugural draft, you can disable that in the Options tab when creating a league. I can think of one very labor intensive way of working around the sub league issue, but maybe someone can help you out with the importing of specific teams and save you some time.

What Kelric says works. Remove the check mark from the inaugural draft setting in the rules menu. You'll also have to turn off "Automatically expand league" and "Hold All-Star Game", and depending on what you want yourself, "disable playoffs" and "schedule spring training".
Then when you've imported the league, you'll need to go into the league structure and remove the four dummy teams (Boston Americans, Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago White Sox, and Detroit Tigers). The other 12 teams will have full rosters. Then move the four in the "AL" to the NL and reset the schedule. The only problem there is I don't think there is a replica of the real 1897 season schedule for OOTP although if you're not concerned with that you can just keep the one created for you. Also you can turn off trades and injuries and suspensions if you so wish. Here's my quick go through to show that it works.

But when it's loaded, you can go into the game setup menu and under "functions", you'll see the fourth one down is "edit league structure". That's where you'll be able to move the teams over and then delete the American League to just have the one league. |

We seem to be talking in circles and I think the critical point I've missed is how your bring these historical teams into a fictional league. The only way I know to get historical teams is to start a historical league, which can not be changed.
Sorry if I'm being a bit dense here... |

Hal, historical leagues can be edited; I've done it with 1962. You follow the same procedure described for editing the structure of existing fictional leagues. In my case I did just about what you're looking to do; I moved all of the teams from the American League to the National, then disbanded the American League. In your case you'd also have to disband the fictional teams, but it should work the same way. Remember to generate a new schedule when you're finished.

I know how to edit a league structure, having done it many times for my fictional leagues. The problem is that in the league creation screen, I don't have that option. It doesn't appear until after the league is created, which never happens because the overall structure causes OOTP to barf.
Step-by-step, here's what I'm doing: 1) Game > Create New Game 2) Click "advanced mode" 3) Click "add historical major league" tab on left side of screen 4) selected "master.csv", set year to 1897. 5) It creates a league with two subleagues, one corresponding to the historic NL, one empty AL. At that point, I'm stuck. The only things that pop up in the action tab are randomize cities, randomize nicknames or delete league. Hopefully, there's something really simple I'm doing wrong. |

Maybe after those steps you've outlined, just create the fictional league that you want, with dummy teams (whatever the game randomly picks). Then using the league editor, delete the dummy teams. Then move the historical teams you want into the fictional league. Does that help?

/users/me/Documents/Out Of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 9/stats/master.csv. I've also tried with historical_database.csv from the same directory. No luck. Quote:
Thanks. |
